This I'm sure is probably an old and common problem, never the less it's
still a problem for me. Several weeks or maybe month's ago, I had a computer
crash. The ME os has never been the same since...not that it was that great
to start with mind you. Anyway, ever since this happened, the machine has
never been the same. I have run all the necessary anti-virus programs and
spyware removal tools. The system still continues to hang, eat system
resources so quick it will make your head spin, and now, it hangs on most
internet web sites when I try to click on a link (internet explorer).
Additionally, I receive all kinds of different error messages, run time
errors, kernel errors and so on.
I have since been using Netscape to navigate through internet web sites and
well, the other (system resources) is just plain ridiculous.
What to do ?????
I have gone through and deleted any unwanted or suspicious programs from the
add/remove programs. I have reduced the start-up programs to the minimum.

Don't know what else to do.........

Sometimes you have to reinstall Windows ME when it gets too bad

You are experiencing a lot of the same indicators I had when my video
drivers were way out of date. My card was old enough that there were no OEM
drivers available and the ones available didn't work at all. My solution
was a new video card.

Try opening System Properties, Performance tab, click on the Graphics button
and set the Hardware Acceleration to one notch above 'None.' If your
freezing problems stop, there is a good chance you should investigate new
video drivers or card. BTW, changing this setting cannot hurt anything and
you merely have to go back and reset it to "Full".
Heirloom, old and worth a try

Some of the gurus on here might be able to help you further if you posted
details of the error messages. Windows keeps a record of errors in the file
FAULTLOG.TXT in the C:\WINDOWS folder. If the Kernel32 errors result from
running one program, the program needs to be replaced. If the problem occurs
when you access multiple files and programs it is likely to be caused by
damaged hardware such as a bad memory module. Download a memory tester from
http://www.memtest86.com/

As for low system resources, are you getting warning messages to that
effect? You can easily have Resources drop to 10-15% without a problem.
