    - WinMe & Drive Image4 I have a mixture of CD-R and CD-RW disks created by Drive Image 4. I have successfully restored the images by using the CD-RW drive(F:) (the software is Easy Cd Creator came with the CD-RW drive) one which created the disks. I have noticed that certain files, not all, on these cds are not readable/visible in win explorer in DVD drive(E:). Does that mean that these cannot be restored from DVD drive in case of a problem with CD-RW drive? Drive Image4 creates images successfully in WinMe. Any help to clarify this would be appreciated.     - sytem resourses are low Me edition, 512 on RAM, running AD-Aware, resources sometimes as low at 17%, programs not fuctioning properly, Never get to 80% system resources.     - add/remove and restore A program accidently got removed via the add/remove function on the control panel. Don't need the program per se, but do need the user file attached to it. Tried to restore the system to the last restore point, but got message that restoration was unsuccessful as no changes had been made to the computer. Any suggestions?     - Tweak it up After a bad start with ME about three years ago it now runs OK even if I overload it with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, MM Flash, OE, virus scanner, firewall, and a bunch of peripherals. This is on a 400Mhz machine with 256 MB RAM. I have built, repaired and installed XP on many machines for various people with much higher specs and it runs like a geriatric waterbuffalo with terminal piles, all the time throwing up daft messages that seem to originate from the MS office paper clip and hassling me with MSM.     - Specifying User Name when connecting to Shared Drive I want to map a drive to a shared drive on a network I am connecting to via a dail up connection and VPN. The problem is that when I map a drive through Explorer I am not prompted to enter login id or password details (as you can in NT4.0). I presume Windows ME is attempting to connect using the login details I specified to log onto Windows ME but these details are different to the login details for the share.     - 0E Exception Blue screen -Thanks for any help Perhaps once every other day I get the following message. The machine locks up preventing any further options except turning the machine off. "An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C0265211 in VxD VPowerd (07+00000299. This was called from 0028:c00ce850 in VxD VKd(01)+00000640. It may be possible to continue normally." When I press control-alt delete nothing happens and I am forced to shut the PC (a Dell Dimension L600Cx)down. Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem.     - Windows protection error My sons computer has Windows ME. We loaded a new game on in the program files and now we can't even bring up a start menu to try and uninstall the game.     - MSGSRV32 I put my msgsrv32 file in the recycle bin, now I can't even turn my computer on to safe mode, it only works in dos. I did get an error message once before crashing, it said something about not being able to load kernell & then it said to reinstall windows.     - UPGRADING If I have an error in my windows 98, & my computer tells me I need to reinstall windows, if I upgraded with windows2000 which doesn't erase your data you have saved, than can I just up upgrade & not lose everything I have on my hard drive? My computer can only load to dos, even safe mode crashes the system before the desktop even comes up. I can't transfer anything that doesn't fit on a disk, my usb ports don't even work!     - Fonts appear as iconic characters I am having some problems with fonts in WinMe. Windows Media Player and MSN Messenger (and some other apps.) main title fonts appear as iconic characters (Wingdings or webdings, perhaps?), replacing the normal letters. Is there a way to fix this?     - ActiveX error message in WindowsMe Hi all, One day I was trying to print something while a musical program was playing at the same time on the computer. It locked up and all hell broke loose. I rebooted and got the error message, "While initializing device IFSMGR. The Microsoft Installable File System Manager cannot find the helper driver. Please ensure that IFSHLP.SYS has been installed. System halted." Instead of extracting the two files, IFSMGR and IFSHLP.SYS, I took a copy of them from another computer and copied each prospective file in to the folder that microsoft said to, windows and windows\system. I was able to boot up but only to a desktop with five icons, My docments, My computer, My Network Places, Recyle bin, and Internet Explorer. I can tab to the start button but I can not open it. I have to manually shut down the computer. When I open any icon on the screen, I get an error message, "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly." I saw a message from a July posting on the 24hoursupport helpdesk. I thought I would try the solution that was given: Uncheck "Active Desktop". Right-click a blank area of the desktop, "Properties", "Desktop" tab, "Customize Desktop" button, "Web" tab, uncheck the web page selection, and "OK" your way out. But when I get to the "Show web content on my Active Desktop, it is not checked. Also I found a way to get to System Restore, but when I click on it, the window is empty.     - windows ME hangs on reboots when installing new software, updates, patches or norton utilities optomization that includes optomizing the registry, that requires a reboot of the computer to make the changes effective, the computer shuts down to a black screen with a white blinking cursor. It goes no further and is completely hung requiring a power off to get it to restart. Using a restart from the shutdown options works fine as does a control alt delete.     - windows update error when i try to access windows update website i get as far as "ready to scan for updates" then i get an error window with the error #0x800A138F then it says windows has encountered a problem and they give me the choice of sending in the error number which i have done and also accessing three self help knowlede bases which brings me here. I am using windows me and i am running some basic programs like zone alarm and norton anti-virus and a program called spyblocker. i tried to disable all three programs cleaned my cookies and deleted my files and still no luck!!!     - Saving Pictures to 'My Pictures" Folder I can no longer save pictures from web pages to "My Pictures", which I formerly could with no trouble. Now when I right click on picture, click 'Save Picture As", and select *.bmp as my file choice, and attempt to save it into "My Pictures"folder, it is saved as "File".     - deleting search key words in the search window... I cannot figure out how to delete search key words in the search window. For example, if I searched for: cars the next time I search again and type into the key word box just the letter "c" the search pane will open and give me the option "cars." So, I have the current Norton virus defs etc and am behind a NAT gateway router. Still, I was curious so started looking for the files the subject infection creates on a PC. I found winstt32.dat, winppr32.exe and w32.sobig.f@mm in the following registry folder: hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\internet explorer\explorer bars\{C4EE31F3-4768 etc (some kind of ID)}\FilesNamedMRU.     - DESPERATE - Blank Windows Explorer screens, and even Restore Program screen I just sat down to update my son's Windows Me system and there were a lot of MS updates he needed. I loaded them. Now, When I open My Computer, I can see his hard drive, CD drive, Control Panel, etc. listed. But when I select any of those items, I get a blank Windows Explorer screen. The status line will show "34 objects" for example, but NOTHING can be seen or visibly selected. There are no column headings when I switch to details view. If I do Control-A, it indicates all 34 objects have been selected. It does this in most folders, but I remembered some folder names and found I could browse to them and see their contents in the usual manner. An example was C:/Program Files/Plus! showed me the folders and files as it should. When I then browse back UP the tree, it again shows the folders above it as blank. Control Panel is blank - but the status line says the objects are there. So, I tried to run RESTORE but it does not load. I run it a second time and it just gives me a blank screen.     - Download problem... I'm so confused.... I have been trying to d/l the latest Kodak Easyshare software for Windows (v. 3.2) and every time I try, the "File Download" manager d/l's a file titled "install_easyshare.exe" - sounds good, right? Well, the file is supposed to be around an 11M file, IIRC, yet what I get is a .zip file of 506k - and it is an installer for USR/3Com "Internet Update Wizard"! (Nope, I don't even have a USR/3Com modem!). I've tried this on 2 different computers (home network), using NS 7.0, 7.1, Mozilla 1.3, 1.4, and IE 5.5SP2. In fact, in response to my emails, Kodak support keeps telling me I MUST use IE and I can upgrade my IE to v. 5.1 or higher at microsoft.com! (Silly me - I thought 5.5 WAS "higher" than 5.1!)     - Restore Points -- number of restore backup points I think WINME sets the number of backup points to 5. However, a year ago I recall a method of changing that to whatever you wanted. I've forgotten how to tweak the registry (I think that was how it was done) to change to 10. Why would you want to do this? Today I couldn't get any of 4 restore points to boot.
