When starting up, and my desktop is loading, I receive the
folowing alert:

Cannot find '{D3OC1661-CDAF-11DO-8A3E-OOSO4FC9E26E}'.
MAKESURE THE PATH OR INTERNET ADDRESS IS CORRECT

with an 'OK' tab below.

This does not look like any IP address or URL I have ever
encountered, and was wondering if any1 had any ideas as to
what is going on?

Thx.

Go to start | run and type msconfig. When the dialogue box appears click the
start-up tab and look for any programs you don't need to have starting with
windows and any that are not sure what they are. Uncheck them, click apply,
reboot immediately.
If that does not resolve your problem , post back.

This looks like a CLSID such as may be used in the path to your Outlook
Express message store. Alternatively since you mention the problem being as
your desktop loads it could perhaps refer to what is called a NameSpace which
is a registry entry that is used to create special desktop icons such as My
Documents and the Recycle Bin.

If you use MSConfig (Start, Run, enter MSConfig in the box and click OK), and
open the Startup tab do you see any reference that has such a string?

OK, by using regedit to check the registry I can see that it is a CLSID and it
is used by IWebBrowser. Why this is giving you the error you are seeing I do
not know. Check that any web objects you might have on your desktop aren't
damaged.

To Mike M : Many thanx for the suggestions. I had
recently installed a web-based product from my broadband
(cable) server, which perported to help resolve various
issues and troubleshoot problems, but which proved quite
basic and unhelpful to an intermediate uaer such as
myself. I uninstalled this, and also deleted two other
desktop icons (Adobe Acrobat 5 & Outlook Espress) which I
no longer use. This seems to have resolved my start-up
problem. Many thx, Mike

Mike,

Thanks for the feedback. I'm pleased to read that you've now fixed your
problem which sounds very much as if it was related to the web product from
your ISP.

Regards,
