    - Scan Disk (Through) When I do a through scan disk in about 2 minutes the screen goes off must press enter and it starts again. I have over a million files or something that it wants to scan.     - WME ERRORS #1. Installed WME over W98 SE upgrade, now having Internet connection problems, something to do with "Winsock ", need original Winsock files? Can't locate, only the extensions. #2. Unable to open "Internet Signup" says file is corrupt. #3. Also found that there are some "Bad Setupapi Engines" says need newer version. Is this what WME does when its installed?     - Problems enabling cookies Hi I am trying to d/l AOL messenger (not my idea ! ). I have the program now but when i try to set up a new screen name, i have problems. The URL tells me to "enable cookies". I am using WindowsME. They are enabled and I have checked this. The security settings are OK too ( set to medium). However, i still get the same message. I have removed all temp files etc and used Index.dat Suite to remove index files. I do have Ad-aware, Spyblaster and Spybot installed but i have disabled them. Could i have a problem in the registry?     - Microsoft Works Every time I open the works calendar it comes up with a message that the birthdays do not agree with the birthdays and anniversaries in the address book.     - start button goes gray I am trying to figure out why my start button goes gray every now and then. The word "start" and the "window icon" totally disappear and I have a gray button that is functional. When I resart my computer then that fixes the problem until the next time.     - Unwanted desktop icon Can anyone help me please. Some program somewhere keeps creating a desktop icon. The icon is called ~ and links to nothing. (ie clicking on it does nothing). My antivirus can find no problem. How can I trace which program this is?     - Windows Me wont restart This really sucks so any help would be greatly appreciated. I recently had to replace my motherboard/processor. My AMD processor died so I bought a motherboard/processor combo. Everything loaded fine, Windows Me booted up fine. I loaded a new video card. At this point the system upon recognizing new hadware rebooted. I loaded the new soundcard drivers and it asked if I wanted to restart. I clicked yes and it went to a black screen with a cursor in the top left corner. The short of it is the computer works fine other than it wont restart.     - partition gone! Oh man! where to start, at the begining...Of course its ME system..my rugrat was playing a harry potter game, [no probs for a long time with it (HP game)] went to close the game and the computer froze. ? then later that day (back in Nov) the only thing that shows [still] is the gateway logo thing then apparently goes thru some sort of startup stuff but doesnt complete (i guess) because the next thing that pops in is black screen with this message :Invalid boot diskette please incert boot diskette in A: ....i've trys this to no avail,i then tried the win ME startup disk, ugg same deal, got it to go thru some diagnose thing, scandisk thru the prompt thing, says " no probs found" tried the system restoration disks, no help, tried to reistall windows thought it was going to go but it said "remove disk to finish installing windows" but it wouldnt do that either? ...i finally got one of the things in there said that i dont have a fat or fat 32 partition? now i do understand some of this stuff"learn as i go" kinda guy, BUT i'm whatever would be before a novice lol oh i also tried holding the ctrl button down when the computer restarts, mine beeps n says keyboard error then goes to above message about boot disk...have read thru 40 pages in here but nothing too close to my dilema? i have been to diferent links about fdisk and 1 i just finished reading that about scared the pants offa me lolbout repartitioning etc etc, i dont suppose theres a reasonably easy way to fix this thing,dang gateway closed down the only 2 stores close to me !! $#$^%$^%#% "know what i mean? thnaks in advance!! hope i didnt type too much Uncle Sam=dissapointed with modern technology Tag: microsoft help Tag: 226260

    - Frozen computer in 5 minutes I was browsing a web page when my computer froze and the screen faded white in a wierd way. I tried to reboot my computer, but both times the computer freezes up again and becomes white within 5 minutes of rebooting. The first time I tried I was on-line, the second time I was not. I contacted both AOL (my isp provider) and Sony (my computer manufacturer) and both claimed it was not a problem related to them. I thought it might be the blaster worm, but I was almost certain I had installed the patch to remove it before. Besides, I'd figure in a year my anti-virus software who have updated to block that.     - Msgsrv32.exe [not responding] windows will freeze while programs are loading. Sometimes it will just be slow and make you think it has frozen, but programs still load. This causes games to crash and programs to work right or at all. ctrl+alt+del produces msgsrv32.exe [not responding] end tasking it just makes the system work, but sound is missing or slow loading times, etc. I know this is how windows communicates with other programs and etc, but is there a way to fix this?     - WinME freezes/locks up after idle. My ME is configured as ICS dialup HOST for a P2P'd XP machine. I don't have any screensavers, hibernation, or suspend enabled. The systems are configured to also share files. Most of the time, this arrangement works extremely well. However, sometimes when I don't need to work on the ME machine and just leave it ON inorder that the XP machine can get access to the dialup, and walk away, after a little while the ME machine does not respond to mouse movement or other controls. The only thing that responds is ctl-alt-del to pop-up the tasklist, but then the arrow keys don't respond to make a selection. MEANWHILE, the networked XP machine is acccessing the dialup just fine! What could be causing this apparent lockup on ME? A reboot with ctl-alt-del seems to be my only option at that point. Fortunately the system doesn't trigger Scandisk - so I know there is no real corruption in the data files. Anyone familiar with this scenario? I have heard from another WinME user about a similar situation, but their ME machine was not networked; however, they discovered that the problem was "DMA - enabled" for the CD-R/RW device.     - ME freezes @ start up ME freezes frequently...upon restart the last time, it goes thru scan disk and does not complete the process but freezes the screen and mouse halfway through. I powered down again and closed scan disk before it finished and the screen is frozen at the startup page. The icons appear, but screen is gray and mouse is frozen.     - Windows Updates To recover from a system crash I had to reinstall Windows ME. After reinstalling Windows ME I tried to update the OS from the internet. The update installation failed. Each time I restart the computer I receive a pop-up window to "Resume Windows Update: Internet Explorer and Internet Tools". I have just tried to use the on-line technical support
system and typed the P.I.D, as requested gained from
Control Panel only to be told it was not a valid number!!
Could it be because it was pre-loaded any help appreciated
