When starting Help from the Start menu, the following error message is
displayed: marscore.dll not found.
Searched on OEM Win 98 and ME upgrade disks. Not found there either.
Any help appreciated.

I wonder how you managed to "lose" this file since it is essential part of Win
Me's Help & Support and can only be deleted from DOS since it should be
protected by Win Me's System File Protection.

You have two options, either to use system restore to rollback your system to
before you deleted this file or to extract a new copy from the Win Me cab
files on your upgrade CD.

marscore.dll is to be found in WIN_12.CAB where for some reason I don't
understand it is called "marspch.dll". You should find WIN_12.CAB in the
Win9x folder of your Win Me CD. Alternatively you might have the cab files on
your hard disk in either the windows\options\cabs or windows\options\install
folder. Extract a new copy from win_12.cab by double clicking the cab file
and dragging a copy of marspch.dll to your desktop and then to
WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\BINARIES.

You can now try renaming marspch.dll to the required marscore.dll but Win Me's
System File Protection may intervene and prevent this. If this is the case I
would suggest booting to DOS using a floppy and then browsing to
C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\BINARIES and then at the command prompt renaming
MARSPCH.DLL to MARSCORE.DLL, removing the floppy and restarting Win Me.

Lorne,

I'm glad to read you've managed to recover the missing file. Out of interest
which of the two methods I suggested did you use?

Cheers,

Mike

Extracted file from CAB and re-named. This has been going on too long to use
System Restore without losing a ton of updates. Needed to use DOS to re-name
file.
Thanks again for your help.

I've just had a similar problem to this in WinXP, unable to access
Help and Support and got the message marscore.dll not found.

From Kelly's tweaks I downloaded the .dll and unzipped it to
C:\Windows\system32
thets where my Search said it was all the time.
Still didnt work.

The answer came from PC Advisor forum and a post from Stupidhead. He
isnt!
His suggestion was to do Start Run sfc/scannow which verifies that all
Protected Windows Files are intact.

I ran the programme and it closed without a message.
Iunthikingly accessed Help and Support for some more info...
and got straight through.

Hope this helps someone else Mike
