    - Computer reboots spratically Computer for no apparant reason reboots. I have used several virus programs to check for virus and they say I have none. This rebooting is only once or twice a day. It seems to happen when I am on the web or off. We have replaced the mother board and power supply. this has not helped. Has this happened to anyone else and has anyone a solution.     - Outlook Express 6 First my rant: I just wanted to ask Microsoft a simple question about OE 6. I'm astounded how difficult (seemingly impossible) they make that. My problem: awhile back I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded all the applicable free stuff (updates, patches, etc.) that I could. One of those was Outlook Express 6. Since then, I am unable to open attachments. I get the following message: "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail:(name of attachment)". I already have Norton virus protection, so I don't need OE to tell me what attachments I can open and what I can't. Actually, it won't let me open any. How can I fix this? I have Microsoft ME.     - Windows ME Disc Cleanup Tool only deletes internet based cookies-I have about 60 Over the past several years, I have accumulated more than 600Megs in the Windows/Temp folder. Not all of these files have a .tmp extension. When I run the Disc Cleanup Utility in the Windows ME System Tools, it seems that mainly Internet Explorer cookie files, some PC Health files, and a few other types are deleted, but generally Windows/Temp folder files keep accumulating.     - _RESTORE folder question I saw my virus checker, Avast!, check out the c:\_RESTORE folder but I cannot see that folder in Windows Explorer. How can I see that folder so I can determine how much is in it? I have it programmed to accept 6,800 MB for restore, but I would like to know how much is really there.     - quarantined files...what to do now? I first got the W32.Dumaru@mm virus in September, then the W32.Sobig and an IRC Trojan a few days ago. I didn't have anti virus for the first one, then installed Norton Antivirus 2003, which detected and automatically removed the Dumaru virus from three files: C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM.load.32 C:/WINDOWS/dllreg.exe C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM.vxdmgr32.exe and when my computer started up it would inform me that "windows cannot find" the last file on the list. Now, all totalled, I have seven files quarantined: windrv.exe dialler.exe dllreg.exe load32.exe patch.exe vxdmgr32.exe winmgm32.exe What should I do about this? Is there anything I CAN do?     - Error Message SIFP My Computer crashed the Operating Systems last weekend. I got the system running again by reloading my Windows ME and all seemed fine for a while. When I started to go the Internet and run IE, I got an error SIFP the system will shut down. After that time, I can be on the Desktop or going into a program and this message will pop up. It does not state .dll or any extension so I do not know where to start. Has anyone seen this message? Please give me any input anyone has on this.     - bootup WME always freezes on bootup when it gets to Windows screen, requiring power down (only option) and reboot resulting in boot mode selection. Usually, I pick "normal" followed by successfull boot. Occasionally, it will go to safe mode on second power on. Checked bootlog.txt after going into safe mode. Only failures included vprintf.vxd and nuwave.drv, both displayed "file not found". Not sure if these are the real cause.     - Loss of usb connection I installed successfully an apc battery backup. The software installed successfully and the system functioned with no problem for two weeks. The unit is connected to my computer via a usb connection. Upon bootup one day the software stated that the connection is no longer available "the cable is unplugged". The cable was plugged in. I did the following: 1. Reseated the cable (nothing) 2. Checked the usb connection in Device manager (checks Ok) 3. Uninstalled and reinstalled the software (nothing) 4.     - "upgrade" from windows ME to windows98 Hi. I was wondering if anyone would know the answer for the question: Can I "upgrade" my windows me to windows 98? I know that the question sounds weird. What I am planning to do is to reformat my hard-disk and, instead of Windows ME, install Windows 98. Is that possible? Will I have any hardware problems? I strongly believe that Windows 98 is a much better and stable operational system. That's the reason I want to change from ME to 98.     - Automatically attempting to dial connection Somewhat recently, I keep getting prompted to connect to the internet. This usually happens when I use Windows explorer and click on a folder. Each time I click on another folder, I am prompted. It also happens when I go into the Control Panel. It appears as though when a new window is opened, it attempts to connect. I have installed spy-bot, Ad-Aware and a firewall. The only think that the firewall seems to be picking up that is trying to connect is LOADQM.EXE and QMGR.DLL (I'm assuming part of Windows Update). Windows update in the control panel is set to manually check. I do not like having control over whatever this is and am quite concerned with what it is trying to do, even if it is the update process.     - Any way I can download WinME updates separately? I have recently upgraded a Win98 computer to WinME. That machine does not have an Internet connection and I really don't expect to use it that way. Mostly it will just be used for games, graphics editing, digital printing etc. Therefore I do not need the latest virus definitions or security patches. But I would like to get all the WinME updates that pertain to performance and stability. This should be just a one-time thing, as I don't imagine Microsoft is continuing to produce new performance updates for this ageing OS. My question is, Is there any way I can download any such existing ME updates via the WinXP computer I do use for the Internet (which has a DSL connection so should make short work of it)?     - Cmdinst has caused an error in USER.EXE Hi, I am trying to install an ADSL 500 modem from BINATONE (USB 1.1). I get through part of the installation with the install program and I am prompted: "the DSL installer is searching for installed hardware. If your modem is not yet plugged into your computer, plug it in now" I plug the modem in and then get the following error message: "Cmdinst Cmdinst has caused an error in USER.EXE. Cmdinst will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try to restart your computer." The only option after that is to press OK. I then get the message: "The DSL Modem Setup Wizard is now installing the drivers needed by Windows to operate the modem" The computer then continues to install the drivers. This goes on for about 3-4 minutes, which seems excessively long... I then get: "Error There is a problem installing the drivers for your modem. The operating system could not install the driver properly. Please call technical support for assistance" Only option is to press finish. The files are then uninstalled before I am prompted to restart my PC. I also try to plug the modem in before installing any drivers...I then get the same error message. I am running Windows ME. I have no previous ADSL modems or drivers installed. I have tried to install the modem 3 times now and always get the same errors. I have also contacted Binatone who sent me updated drivers. No luck! Reinstall the scanner or camera software drivers that you use TWAIN middleware with.
