How do I get rid of the login screen?

When I reboot, I get a screen prompting me to login to Default.

I tried renaming the default.pwl files to default.savpwl. This works
on 98 but
not on the newfangled ME.

In order to reset/bypass the password option see :-
"How to Prevent a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me Logon Prompt at
Startup"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;152104

When it comes to setting up again, then if you no longer want a password,
enter a name but DO NOT enter any password at all, then click OK.
DO NOT "Cancel".

That requires the default password.

I don't know the password, so I cannot disable it that way.

See note 9) - rename (or delete ) ALL .pwl files.

Thanks very much for your help. I got it to work. I had renamed the
.pwl files earlier, but I had to perform the steps in the right order.
At least I think thats what finally worked.

Certainly helps! <g>

It's good to know that you've now got it to work, well done - and thanks for
the feedback, it's appreciated.
