After downloading Windows updates on Millennium PC's, upon
reboot I receive the following error message: "error
loading Explorer.exe You must reinstall Windows". This
has occurred on three different ME systems. I am unable
to load Windows.

HELP!!!

Thank you in advance,

Holly

Holly,

Which Norton product is on your system ? You MUST temporarily disable
Norton Antivirus and it's script blocking component prior to accessing
the Windows Update site, or downloading, and installing updates.
Try booting to Safe Mode and removing the updates. It may be too late
for this, but it's worth an attempt. If you are running Norton System
Works 2003 or Norton Internet Security 2003 than I fear that you will
have to reinstall. There is no other option that I've run across yet.

To boot to Safe Mode, click Start, Shutdown, choose Restart, press the
F8 key repeatedly prior to Windows startup, choose the Safe Mode option.
( You MUST press the F8 key prior to Windows startup or you will boot
into Normal Mode -- you will receive the error message again ). Now go
into Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the last updates
that you did. Reboot the computer and hope that all is not too far gone.
Then dump Norton as fast as you can. AVG is a very useful free antivirus
program :

Zone Alarm is a fairly effective firewall :
