After my ISP Comcast service man left, change started
showing up on my computer, like Windows Explorer will no
show files, even when selected in View, but other choices,
like history, favorite, etc. will Local computer forum
told me to 'fluff' my ME by reinstalling it over itself.
But Dell tech told me couple years ago never to do that.
Can or can I not. I don't want to have to format C: and
start all over again.....please help if you can. Thanks!

Installing over your original ME will more than likely
cause more problems than it will fix anything.

The solution I found first tells you to click in the right
pane of windows explorer and hold down the 'ctrl' key will
hitting the '+' sign on your number pad.

Explorer shows nothing in right pane problem.

Use the Internet Explorer Repair tool to fix the View issue. Boot to
Safe Mode, first. Then open Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Click
once to highlight your version of IE, click the Add/Remove button.
Choose the Repair option. Do not have any programs open as the system
will reboot to complete the repair.

Two weeks ago I reinstalled ME on the top of ME. Today I know that
what I should have done was to go back to a RESTORE point and do it. I
did have some problems with the reinstalation, such as having to
reinstal certain programs,
but I went through it OK and the computer is fine now. Would I do it
again?
I don't think so...

ME install over itself by anonymous

Hi and thanks for helping. It is the left panel that is
grayed out. Have been told to go to Add/remove and remove
the Internet Explorer Q......but it will not let me, give
an invalid INF file. Have searched for anything
pertaining to IE6 and find nothing. Can't download it
because it says I just need to install the one I
have,,,,one that I cannot find. Screaming is in order,
and not just for Halloween. Hope you have some
suggestions. Thanks again.

You can try the following.

Copy the text that follows between but not including the +++++ symbols into
Notepad and then save to your desktop as the file FixPane.reg

+++++++++++++++++++++
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EFA24E64-B078-11d0-89E4-00C04FC9E26E}]
@="Explorer Band"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EFA24E64-B078-11d0-89E4-00C04FC9E26E}\InProcServer32
]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\SHDOCVW.DLL"
"ThreadingModel"="Apartment"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EFA24E64-B078-11d0-89E4-00C04FC9E26E}\ImplementedCat
egories]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EFA24E64-B078-11d0-89E4-00C04FC9E26E}\ImplementedCat
egories\{00021493-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]

+++++++++++++++++++++

Note that the four [HKEY lines will have wrapped when you get to read them and
need to be edited back into single lines, each starting [HKEY_.... and ending
with a ]. The last line of the file must be a blank line.

Once you have created the file FixPane.reg, select and right click and then
click Merge to merge the file with the registry. Hopefully this will fix the
problem. It would be appreciated if you could post back afterwards and let me
know what effect this has.
