I downloaded a "dot msi" file, supposingly for Windows.

How to install the thing on either Win98 or Winme ?

ANy help will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance !!

.MSI stands for MicroSoft Installer - it should just install when you
double-click on it as it is a self-installing program.

It would be better if he downloaded version 2 of the Windows Installer.
Your link leads to 1.1 version which was replaced many years ago.

Logic would suggest that, wouldn't it? However Microsoft logic
somehow make MSI stand for "Windows Installer" and ".msi" means a
"Windows Installer Package"!

What is needed to install these packages (by double-clicking), is
to have the installer engine installed. One can probably find the
installer for that, InstMSIa.exe, sprinkled around inside
selfextracting archives on the harddrive or on CD's laying around
the house.
