TAP132.DLL error message after installing SBCYahoo! Dail-Up CD Software
After installing SBCYahoo! Dial-Up from a CD Rom sent by
the company, I have had a very annoying Connectionmanager
error message which pops up when I turn on my computer and
when I try to connect to the internet with SBC Yahoo!. It
says that connectionmanager has caused an error on
TAP132.DLL. Connectionmanager will now close. This
message repeats itself many times. I click on close, and
the message reappears. Eventually it does not
reappear...eventually. After calling tech support for
SBCYahoo! Dial-Up, the technitian and I tried to create a
new network icon as a shortcut to bypass that part of the
internet connection on their software. When we did that I
noticed that neither of the phone access numbers for SBC
dial-up had hyphens listed on the Network window which
pops up after clicking on Network on the lower left part
of the My Computer window screen. I have a working AOL
account which I am having no trouble with. That number
has a hyphen listed, so we corrected all the numbers to
include hyphens in both SBC dial up listings. When we
tried to connect online with the new bypass link, I
received a new error message reading Rundll32 has just
caused an error on TAP132.DLL. So, I'm getting the same
error now, from two different sources. The tech person
said that this was not something they could help me with.
That apparently there is a corrupted file somewhere. Is
this something that can be fixed by uninstalling the SBC
software and re-installing the program from another
source, or is this fix going to be more involved...
Thanks...SW Tag: index viewer Tag: 249279

Please can anyone offer me some help?
My computer recently crashed (froze completely whilst on

an 0x0c Sharing Violation, and it won't go any further.

Scandisk Hangs - Among other things
I'm working on rehabilitating a friend's computer. At the
moment I'm in a deep hole in that I can't even get the
poor thing to start up. Scan disk runs because I had to
force the shut down - but it just hangs. I'll try
starting in safe mode when I get home from work tonight
but I thought I would drop this posting in case someone
has an idea that will keep me from making things even
worse than they already are. Assuming that is possible.
It's a Dell machine - lower end Dimension L800r. It's
been running about 4 years. AntiVirus running but
probably never updated. Clearly loaded with spyware.
Possibly virus infected (obviously). May be suffering
from some ill advised repair attempts of their own as
well as of mine - to be honest. Symptoms are extremely
slow response and other types of bizarre behavior.
They recently downloaded and installed a program called
WinAntiVirus 2004. That was my biggest going in problem
because - they reported that it pushed them over the edge
on response - unfortunately I can't stop the program
because the only thing that it is willing to run is the
activation program - I couldn't get to the internet to do
it - and I'm not sure I want to do that. I unchecked it
in the msconfig startup tab - but I'm concerned that some
of the little processes that are running may also be
associated with it - so I hesitated from simply
uninstalling it from add/remove programs.
Does anyone know of this program and whether or not it is
reputable. It looks shakey to me.
Regardless though - can't do much now that scan disk
hangs and I can't get a start. I was in the process of
investigating each thing in msconfig-startup and
unchecking the ones that looked safe. The last thing that
I did was to uninstall a thing called Webenhancer.
Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated before I
continue my journey. Tag: index viewer Tag: 249209

what's this qki.exe file doing?
I am tuning up my father's system (HP Pavilion with 1 GHz Athlon, 128 MB RAM
40GB HD) and boy did he have some serious adware!
I've been going through Registry and carefully deleting the junk that placed
itself on his system, and am curious about qki.exe. It keeps perpetuating
itself into the Programs/ Startup folder. I've deleted it, and still can't
kill the little (49.5kb) bugger. I had a hunch it might have something to do
with C:\Windows\Applog cos there is a file there, qki.lgc, which I am
guessing is related in some way, and I'm interested in learning how. I
renamed the lgc file, deleted qki.exe but it still came back after
restarting.
What's more, a search on google, cnet, et al shows nothing. Could it be
something Microsoft (nothing on their site) or HP (or some other OEM) in
fact provided?
I've used a couple of programs to assist with the cleanup and none of them
show it is as a known quantity.
Besides wanting to know if it is something I should keep or kill, how/when
would something re-create itself- on power down or power up? During
Msconfig.exe selective startup, if I uncheck it, it adds another version of
itself!
Hope it's not a bug!
Thanks,

Long Wait-Time to Connect to Internet ?
We have a vacation cabin in a very rural area. We have a dialup
connection, and the speed varies, but is usually around 28k. Based on some
research and in talking with others in the county, it appears there is no
cure for this, as our home is very far away from the telephone central
office or connection point.
What we cannot understand is that it takes so very long to **initially
connect** to the isp. It sometimes takes 10 or up to 15 minutes to
connect. Every now and then, it will connect in 1 or 2 minutes, but it
is never fast.
I wondered is there are some modem settings that we could check and/or if
there is a webpage that might discuss this. I have done many Google
searches, but ALL of them talk about the overall speed of the connection
itself, which is not what I am asking about. I am trying to improve the
amount of time that it takes to make the **initial** connect to the isp.
Any help on this one ??
Thanks for any input or ideas !!

Hello. About four days ago SpyBot found two instances of VBouncer in my

Best Backup Utility Please ?
About a year ago, I spent a great deal of time researching the internet and
reading many reviews, to select a good, reliable , backup utility. After
much effort and reading, I selected Genie Backup Program. Although it has
the features that I love and has a pretty intuitive interface, I find it to
be unreliable and flakey.
My OS is Windows ME.
The main features that I want are :
1. Can write to CD.
2. Can automate on a pre-set schedule.
3. Stable, and reliable.
4. Practical and intuitive interface.
5. Easy backup restore process and interface.
6. Easy selection of folders and items for backup.
-------------------------------------------------
Compression or encryption are not needed. Also, I never need more backups
that what will fit on one CD. I guess my needs boil down to reliability
and intuitive interface, as well as automation if possible in the same
package.
When I started out looking for an acceptable product a year ago, I thought
that it would be simple to find a very good product for my limited backup
needs. I don't feel the same way now, after reading glowing reviews about
Genie Backup Program and then using it for a year.
I hope this is posted in the right groups. If better or more proper groups
exist, I would appreciate direction to them.
Thank you very much for any helpful input on this !!!
