My son gave me an older computer with Me and an old virus called
badurl.grandstreet. I know that this is an old problem that was hopefully
solved years ago. Is there an easy fix?

How do you know you have this virus?? I cannot find anything by that
name at Norton for starters, and I do not remember any virus bearing
that name.

Cite your source for this name please. And perhaps if you went to an
antivirus group, they could help. But start here with where you got
this name and what problems it is causing.

Don't know about "easy", but "effective", yes.
Apparently you are dealing with "Spyware".
There are a few free programs for your consideration:

Duh.....didn't think about Google, but this is so flippin' old and I was
reading thru a HiJack This report on Tom Coyote on it. Wouldn't any or
all of the various spyware programs nail this one now??? It is 2 to 3
years old. Probably one of the first hijackers out there.

Or perhaps I got the first one, grin. Forget which it was, but my
daughter went to a perfectly innocent Ladies Magazine website and
something nailed my WinME.

It's amazing the stuff you can accumulate visiting supposedly decent sites.

Yes, I would think that most anti-spyware apps would deal with the problem,
but I haven't studied it in any depth.

+1 on the 'innocent sites'.........my wife was looking up info on hyper
thyroidism and picked up Comet Cursor. The Net is not a place to blindly
stomp around in, especially, without adequate protection.

P.S. Heather.....IIRC, that grandstreet nasty killed IE and getting rid of
it required some regedit. Of course, that was while ago and some of the
newer AV and AS apps may do the trick.

Yup, I read about what it did and it was a nasty one. Funny tho, I
never heard tell of it on the antivirus groups. Anyway, I would assume
that all of the anti-malware progs have it covered.

May I suggest that you'd do a lot better to wipe that drive and reinstall
everything fresh. I doubt that malware infestation is the only problem that
machine has, and even if it is, once a machine has been infested you have no
certain way to know that it is fully cleaned up. At the very least, go to
www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm and run ALL of the tests suggested there,
finishing with a HijackThis log posted to an appropriate forum (NOT this
one!) Even then, there's no sure way to know the machine is clean.
