My computer "freezes" at least every other day--I get
error messages often on a variety of things
including "system resources dangerously low" and my MS
Word program often has problems. I call my PC provider
and get it back on track but it always ends up with
trouble again. I have heard ME causes problems and XP or
2000 is better--any advice on if that could solve the
problems?
Thanks

In alot of cases upgrading the OS to solve a problem is the same as
buying a new car instead of changing the spark plugs on the old one.

Some basic maintenance, perhaps...

first run some anti-malware programs to ensure that your system isn't
infected:

free for personal use antivirus tool:
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

free for personal use spybot/adware detection & removal tools (use both):
http://www.safer-networking.org/
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Second, prune your Startup items:

Open up Start/Run/msconfig.exe/Startup and check the items against
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php
eliminating the ones you don't need.

Third a little file-system maintenance:

Start/Programs/Accessories/SystemTools
run DiskCleanup, Scandisk and Defrag (in that order).

A program that manages those 3 programs quite well:

After you've completed those (necessary) hoops, see how your system
works and post back; if there's still problems, provide exact error
messages.
