can't use internet
I am using a daul-boot pc with windows me & xp pro with IE 6.0,
Celeron, 256 MB ram, office xp, Norton 2003 with dial-up internet.
I am having problem with my windows me, I can't use the internet. I am
able to connect to the internet just fine but the connection is
completely dead, IE just displays "page can't be displayed" and no
matter what I try the data send & receives is just 400bytes.
there is no problem with the isp as I have already tested this
connection of my XP Pro machine. I have already reinstalled IE 6.0,
Dial-Up Networking, modem driver.
all this is havening after I used Ad-Aware and deleted few reg
entries.
does anybody know how to fix this problem, I don't want to reinstall
windows.

i recently started getting the error message "hardware
monitor found and error, enter Power setup menu for
details", press F1 to continue or press F2 to enter setup.
I've tried everything. Even reformatted my hard drive

Thanks, guys! That was exactly it! I had over 10GB of System Restore files!
I booted into DOS with a floppy and was able to delete about 3.5GB of them,
but even in DOS it takes about 4/5 of a second per file to delete... so I'm
going to be deleting for the next couple of nights, hehe. Is there an
option to disable System Restore anywhere? If so, where is it? (Amazing
side note: The System Restore space slider is still greyed out, but it
moved to the right since I last looked at it. Three notches to the right.
How obnoxious!) I would just like to disable it for a bit until I get this

When I start my computer from either a cold boot or a
restart, it goes to a black screen that says everything
has been detected but "Press F1 to Resume". Does anybody

Restoring Windows ME command.com and other main boot files
I had a virus on my main boot drive. I attempted to make
my second drive indo a Windows 98 drive and then to use my
Windows ME drive to attempt to load and scan the computer
with antivirus software.
However, in my attempt, the Windows 98 Setup deleted my
disk files that indicated the drive to Windows ME.

PC restarts it self
My PC has window ME loaded. When you boot it up - it
startup compltly then restarts. You cannot do anything
with the PC. Is this a virus? I used my norton recover

Weird Problem -- Repeating C's and N's
This is a strange problem. Periodically, I get a sequence of
repeating C's and N's (both uppercase and lowercase). When this is
happening, I cannot select any menu item because the string of C's and
N's is controlling the keyboard input.
The only thing that seems to stop it is to either reboot the computer
or to click on the Windows start key and keep pressing the letter S
(between all the C's and N's) until the letter S finally gets
recognized.
I don't have a virus. I don't have any spies. I don't have any
programs that shouldn't be there.
I would think if it were a problem with the keyboard (keys getting
stuck for example) that pressing the letter S would not stop the
problem.
Anybody ever heard of this???

Hi i just installed msn messenger 6.1 a little while ago..
and now whern i try to load it it says...MSIMG32.DLL is
damaged..i tryed to reistall...didnt work...i tryed to
repair....didnt work..then i deleted the dll file and then
reinstalled..but msn messenger doesnt come with said dll
file...so im screwed cause i cant use msn messeger till i

P.C. shutdown freeze
Every time I go to shutdown my computer it freezes up & I

I can't get into any Windows ME applications, such as: my
computer, explorer, control panel, find, search---. I can
get into programs loaded onto the system. When I try to
get into the Windows applications a pop-up window tells me

folder options
While attempting to change the icon to my folders I
accidently caused the MS-DOS Prompt window to come up
every time I double click on a folder in My Documents. I
was in Folder Options under Tools in File Types and under
Advanced in the Folder and File Folder spot and I changed
the icon. I made the mistake of thinking that if I set it
as Default it would stick. Instead it started to open the
Windows Explorer every time I doubleclicked. So I went
back in and discovered that I had set the command Explore
as Default not the icon. So I tried to give it a new
command like Open and set that as default so now it opens
MS-DOS Prompt. If anyone has any ideas on how do undo a
default I can't delete the actions out the option is not
available with folders and I have tried System Restore,

"Your admisistrator disabled the Display control panel"
is the error I get when I want to change the screen saver
settings, basically when I go into the display.
THe thing is their is only one user set on my computer,,me
their are no passwords I have enable except for the screen
saver which I know...no one else uses my computer...I

When I download windows updates, then install, I have to
cancel after a minute, because I end up with thousands of

i reinstalled windows me. now everytime i turn on my
computer i get a windows network logon box. While all i
have to do is hit cancel and the computer will continue to
boot, this is annoying because you must stay with it while

tried to update with windows 2000
I tried to update ME since it keeps feezing so much we
can't use the computer. When I tried to update with
windows 2000 it installed as a 2nd operating system. Now
it wont let me delete windows 2000 and I can't transfer my

System Locks Up
When I have a few windows open, the system totally
freezes. I can't even use control-alt-delete to shut
down. Nothing works at that point. I noticed that along
the top of the screen I get a pattern of 1/4" vertical
lines running acros the screen when this happens.

Connecting USB Smart Card reader crashes WinMe
I get a blue screen "Problem with system file" message, referring to VxD
dynamic link call NTMAPHLP(02) + 00000002 to "004F", service 1.
(The USB Smart Card reader I'm trying to use connects fine to another
machine sitting beside the one that crashes, so I know it's not the USB
Smart Card reader that's at fault.)
Is there a simple way to add whatever's missing so I don't blue screen?
The only WinMe reinstall disk I have is the OEM disk that came with my Dell
Dimension 4100.

81696 Security Update Trashes Windows Me - HELP!!!
After installing this security update, my Windows Me
notebook has been rendered unusable! Apparently, all
ActiveX controls have been disabled and I can't do
ANYTHING on the computer except browse the web. I can't

Internet Security Settings - NOTHING!
God I hate Microsoft!
Is there any way to fix this, or is it time to throw the

No Sound
I took my computer into the shop as my video card drivers
were corrupted. They fixed the problem, but now I have no
sound :( I called the tech and he said I would need to re-
install Windows ME, but I can`t do that as it is an OEM

Updates won't install
I have a computer running Windows ME. Updates from the

Macromedia's new flash player won't install after I
download them. The computer just freezes up. Is there a

sypware affecting my internet explorer home page
Help. When I log onto Internet Explorer, I keep getting

then an add for downloading spywiper comes up and a couple
not so nice pop ups and my cd rom opens up automatically.

drive opened up your being attacked by spyware, and it

Sybot as reccommended by Comcast, but they do not capture

Starting Windows Me in Safe Mode
I cannot get my Dell PC to start in SAFE MODE. I am
running Windows Me, and it calls for the user to hold
the "control" key while booting up. This does nothing on
my PC, it just boots up normally.

WinME inaccurately reporting C: space
Hi everyone! I'm new to microsoft.public.windowsme.general, so please bear
with me... anyway, problem. Currently, my C: drive is (I'm pretty sure)
inaccurately displaying the amount of space remaining. On seven occasions
in the past week and a half or so, I've deleted up to 1.2GB of stuff off of
it. At no time in this past week and a half has it shown more than 500MB
being free, and usually it says something between 30MB and 200MB. This
happened once before on this drive, I believe, and once before on another
drive... can't quite remember. It's happened at least once before, though,
and that time it solved itself. Has anyone had this issue, and can anyone
shed some light on it? This drive is a Seagate Barracuda ATAII, about 30GB
total space, with three partitions consisting of a FAT32 partition
(27.0GB), an ext2 (linux filesystem) partition (1GB), and a linux swap
partition (500MB). Any light that can be shed will be much appreciated!
