 - Programs running in background I have a program running in background that writes to hard disk continuously, even with all programs shut down except explorer and systray. Because of this, scandisk will not run, even on startup. Both scandisk and defrag must restart every few seconds. How can I find and eliminate this program?  - Reading docs Hi, hope someone can help me. I want to save some room on my pc by moving all the archieved Yahoo pms that I want to save to CD or floppy. But so far, every time I move one, then try to view it, it has turned into some kind of computer giggeris! I have yet to find a program to turn it back into regular fonts and therefore readable.....sighs. Sure hope someone can help me!! And pleaseeee....... I am not very smart computer wise, so please keep any explanations down to the "see jane run" level ok !!!.lol Heck I am not even sure how I got here to ask this., wonders how I will find it again to see if anyone had he answer......LOL Anyway...meanwhile back at the ranch.......  - ME If I was to re-install Windows ME would it help or hurt anything that exist on my hard drive already? By this I mean installing on top of existing hard drive...not by re-formatting.  - microsoft works update detection Everytime i run microsoft works (v6)it adds MkDetect.exe to my registry, which is an update detection for works. the problem is that there is no such file on my computer so i cant delete it, and whenever i just delete the registry it comes back when i run works again. I also looked in all the microsoft works programs (database, spreadshead, task launcher, etc for menu options to disable but all i found was "Notify me of product updates from works" which i unclicked but it still shows up. any help would be greatful Tag: downloading the new AOL9.0 Tag: 218439

 - internet problems i had been deleting programs of which i knew a few days ago. and in the following days my internet and computer worked perfectly fine, even better than usual in fact. However when i booted up my computer today my internet explorer and email would not run. instead of the usual browser it would say "install dellnet MSN" when i tried to access email or internet. my aol instant messanger worked fine and i was connected to the internet. thus i have no idea how to get my explorer working properly could someone please help me?  - Runtime Error 424: Object Required Help! I recently am getting a pop up explorer window with this error message, Runtime Error 424:Object Required, about 30 to 60 seconds after my PC boots up. My PC is then frozen and a reboot is needed. I can boot into safe mode and troubleshoot from there but have not a clue what I should be looking for or where to find it.  - Mouse Fault I wonder if anyone can help me. I am running ME and my mouse jams up for about 10 seconds. I cant even use the normal keys. If playing music it stops in the middle. Its as if my computer freezes. Ive tried uninstalling it and re-booting. Also tried restoring it back to the last checkpoint there is. Nothing seems to work!!!  - WindowsUpdate repeatedly demands October IE 6.0 SP1 Patch-already installed Hello I am told by Windows Update scan that i critically need : October 2003, Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB828750) My Installation History there shows several successful installations. I tried installing it manually by downloading the file to disc. My PC refused to install it saying that I need to have IE 6.0 installed first. The Control Panel on the PC shows IE 6.0 SP 1 already installed. At the IE Help--->About it shows IE 6.0 SP1. How can I determine which version of IE I really have?  - System Info Missing I have just noticed that System Information (start/programs/accessories/etc) is missing from my menu. I haven't used it for a while so I am not aware when it has disappeared or why?. I know I can access it from RUN msinfo32.exe, but why has it vanished off my menus as it is much easier to access from there? Any ideas on how to get it back onto my menu.  - Iexplore error When trying to burn some music files to a CD, I get the following error message: Iexplore had caused an error in <unknown> Iexplore will now close and then the computer freezes and I have to reboot.  - Loading USB Drivers Hi, I added a US Logic external disk drive that requires its own USB drivers from a CD. So far, I can't get one of the two ME machines to load these drivers. Fiddling around got one to work. The drive documentation says ME should go through a series of prompts when the drive is turned on but it doesn't. The correct drivers are not loaded. ME recognizes the drive but crashes at random during transfers. The other computer behaved the same until I got the correct drivers installed. On that one I uninstalled the USB drivers then installed the drive ones. Either I don't remember how I did it or this machine doesn't like that procedure. How do I get the proper drivers installed? AOL setup has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL
and it wont download. What do I do ? I am very inept at pc
so plz answer in very laymans terms.

This is a known problem - which you would have seen if you'd read the Beta
Bugs and Fixes which you're supposed to, when installing Beta software -
contact AOL for the fix, if any.
