    - Hard drive runs all the time I use Windows Me. My computer has gotten very very slow, particularly when I try to access the web. The hard drive runs all the time, as though it was looking for something it can't find. I have defragmented, removed some programs from startup, ran scandisk, you name it, and nothing seems to help!     - Not enough memory Everytime I start Windows, multiple error messages say that there is not enough memory available to perform the operation and that I must close another program, even if there's nothing open. They just pop up as soon as I can click ok. Thereafter, I cannot open any applications. Even when starting the machine in safe mode, it freezes and gets hung.     - Control Panel Please help. It takes about 2.5 minutes for the control panel on my pc to open fully. It takes about 15-20 seconds for it to appear, then the rest of the time for the icons to appear. I've defrag'd my pc fully to see if it would run faster, but its still the same. Any ideas?     - Lost my Quick Launch toolbar. Help My Quick Launch toolbar lost all the icons so I hid it and tried to bring it out again, hoping it would be recreated. However all I get is a message saying 'unable to create toolbar' Any ideas how to get it back anyone? This happened at the same time my C:\WINDOWS\Application Data folder somehow got binned, I manually copied it back and this seems to have sorted some of the obvious problems with OE , but I don't know if it would have any effect on the Quick Launch toolbar. I find that a lot of the new software and hardware is not compatible with windows ME (printers, SAS...) can I upgrade my old computer using the disks that came with my new computer? Is that legal?     - Help with ME problem.. I don't know what's happened but I've had problems with my computer the past week and now when I start it the only thing it'll do is come up and say "Operating system not found". I've been thinking about getting XP since I hear ME is so bad and I guess now would be the time to do it. If I get XP can I just put it in the CD tray and turn it on to install it or do I have to uninstall ME first(if it's even still there) but I don't know if I can because I can't get my desktop, taskbar and Start button.     - Uninstall IE6 Update Have been having many problems with installing the Internet Explorer update on Windows ME. I have tried reinstalling as well as using all three of Jim Byrd's 3 recommendations to fix (found in previous postings in this group). I also tried the fix according the the MS Knowledge Base article concerning "Error Message: Windows Could Not Upgrade the File %1 from %2 %1: %2" since I was also initially having this problem (I do not have a WININIT.INI file on my computer). No luck with any of these I think that enogh of time has been taken trying to fix this problem. I would like to just uninstall IE6 and reinstall IE5 since I never had any problems with IE5. But, apparently MS has not provided a way to do this on WINME. I saw the KB article outlining how to do it on Windows XP but that does not help me. In addition the "Add/Remove Programs" does not provide a way Can anyone tell me how to uninstall IE6 on WINME? Everything on my computer seems to be running fine except IE6 and Outlook Express.     - Problems enabling cookies Hi I am trying to d/l AOL messenger (not my idea ! ). I have the program now but when i try to set up a new screen name, i have problems. The URL tells me to "enable cookies". I am using WindowsME. They are enabled and I have checked this. The security settings are OK too ( set to medium). However, i still get the same message. I have removed all temp files etc and used Index.dat Suite to remove index files. I do have Ad-aware, Spyblaster and Spybot installed but i have disabled them. Could i have a problem in the registry?     - Microsoft Works Every time I open the works calendar it comes up with a message that the birthdays do not agree with the birthdays and anniversaries in the address book.     - Windows Me wont restart This really sucks so any help would be greatly appreciated. I recently had to replace my motherboard/processor. My AMD processor died so I bought a motherboard/processor combo. Everything loaded fine, Windows Me booted up fine. I loaded a new video card. At this point the system upon recognizing new hadware rebooted. I loaded the new soundcard drivers and it asked if I wanted to restart. I clicked yes and it went to a black screen with a cursor in the top left corner. The short of it is the computer works fine other than it wont restart.     - Frozen computer in 5 minutes I was browsing a web page when my computer froze and the screen faded white in a wierd way. I tried to reboot my computer, but both times the computer freezes up again and becomes white within 5 minutes of rebooting. The first time I tried I was on-line, the second time I was not. I contacted both AOL (my isp provider) and Sony (my computer manufacturer) and both claimed it was not a problem related to them. I thought it might be the blaster worm, but I was almost certain I had installed the patch to remove it before. Besides, I'd figure in a year my anti-virus software who have updated to block that.     - Msgsrv32.exe [not responding] windows will freeze while programs are loading. Sometimes it will just be slow and make you think it has frozen, but programs still load.     - WinME freezes/locks up after idle. My ME is configured as ICS dialup HOST for a P2P'd XP machine. I don't have any screensavers, hibernation, or suspend enabled. The systems are configured to also share files. Most of the time, this arrangement works extremely well. However, sometimes when I don't need to work on the ME machine and just leave it ON inorder that the XP machine can get access to the dialup, and walk away, after a little while the ME machine does not respond to mouse movement or other controls. The only thing that responds is ctl-alt-del to pop-up the tasklist, but then the arrow keys don't respond to make a selection. MEANWHILE, the networked XP machine is acccessing the dialup just fine! What could be causing this apparent lockup on ME? A reboot with ctl-alt-del seems to be my only option at that point. Fortunately the system doesn't trigger Scandisk - so I know there is no real corruption in the data files. Anyone familiar with this scenario? I have heard from another WinME user about a similar situation, but their ME machine was not networked; however, they discovered that the problem was "DMA - enabled" for the CD-R/RW device.
