Cannot click on links in "My Computer"
All of a sudden, the hot links when exploring anything
in "My Computer" don't work. Usually, I can click on an
item such as "My Documents" and the corresponding window
will open up. NOw, this functionality is somehow
disabled. Any suggestions out there?

Start Button, Launch Bar, System Tray Freeze
When I boot I get a couple of error messages related
to "Main" and winlog. I think the "main" is an NAV file
Nmain but not sure. At any rate the normal icons on the
launch bar and system tray appear but will not repond to a
click. Applications that are opened do not appear in the
task bar and the Start button will not function. The
broadband cable signal does not load even though the
signal icon in the system does switch from red to blue
(good connection)before the freeze. The time comes up
properly on boot but then stops of course when the system
tray freezes. Othedrwise everything above the bottom of
the monitor works fine. I have tried to uninstall NAV as
that is usually the root of all problems but it will not
uninstall due to an "integrater" error. I have even tried
to uninstall in safe mode. I tried to upgrade the NAV in
hope of being able to uninstall it but the install hangs
about half way through. At one point while ending tasks
from the task manager the Start button did respond for a
moment as did icons that had been clicked on in the launch
bar. This was short lived and resulted in a system
crash. I have re-installed ME but that had no effect. I
am prepared to do a clean install as all the data has been
backed-up. Is this my best bet or is there another fix?
Can I do a clean install off of an ME Upgrade disk or does
it have to be the OEM Dell disk that has been misplaced
(this is my kid's machine). Where can I find
instructions on the best way to go about a clean install?
I have start-up disks from both this machine and another
machine running ME.

Blue Screen Error on Startup
Everytime Windows ME starts up I get the blue screen error
VMM(12) + 00004C3C error : 0E : 0028 C0279C3C
and then everything freezes... It happens right after the
wallpaper appears and happens eveytime... Right now I'm
using my brothers computer and on my computer I don't
have the time enough to run any programs cuz it happens
right after it starts. I also happens in the safe mode
and on the step-by-step... How can I fix it without
formating or reinstalling windows me, cuz I'm not playing

Open Window Limit
I am experiencing an error message after a few minutes on
the internet. It states that; I have reached the open
window limit and must close some windows and try again.

Hibernate Message at Boot
My son-in-law booted my computer in the wee hours of Xmas
morning. Not being used to my computer I think he must
have tapped the power button on my Dell rather than firmly
pushing it in and holding it for a second. He left town
before I discovered this. Anyway -- the next morning when
I tried to boot my machine I get the message:" previous
resume from hibernate failed. Do you want to try again
(y - yes - N -no) etc. I hit the Y and it loads windows
and all is well. This same message appears every morning
now when I boot.
I never use Hibernate -- In Display Properties Settings I
have it set at System Hibernates: NEVER In my help
section on hibernate it says to tap the power button to
come out of hibernate. I think when he booted by just
tapping the button that is when this message came up -- at
least I think that is what he did.
How do I get rid of this annoying message? and get past
having to hit the (Y - yes) to load windows every day.

Windows Update Hangs
When I click on the windows update, it opens the page and
then the page immediately freezes(hangs). Nothing happens
after this and there are no messages. Also, I have tried
letting it sit for over an hour and nothing happens. I
also have a problem with IE 6 when I try to upgrade from
5.5. It will download IE6 to 72% and then it hangs. Anu
assistance with the following problems would be greatly

everytime i load my computer up whatever i select causes
my computer to freeze. i used norton system works and

Has anyone had any problems with a "box" coming up telling
you to install APPS.INF from Windows Setup into Windows.INF
folder?? I've been getting this error!
My big problem is that IN WINDOWS my CD drives have
disappeared. And I can't get to the file on the CD! The
computer recognizes the drive if I boot from a floppy setup
disk. I'm stumped. It's an old machine, but I was going
to try to keep it going for another year. I've bought a
new LAPTOP on XP, but since this machine is 6 years old, I
didn't want to change operating systems and am sticking

After a recent up-grading of ME I find Windows Explorer
display only shows folders etc in the RHS half of the
window; the LHS is empty. How do I get the LHS to display

Unable to save Colors in paint program.
When I use paint program to print text on image, it is in
my chosen color. Then when i go to next step, such as
starting a new text box, or click save, it turns black n
white. Prints it B&W, recently did a system restore to
correct a display error, was stuck in 16 color 640 x480.

I keep getting a pop up that must be a prank file that
says: "this page contains both secure and non secure
items...do you want to display the non secure items...with
a yes no or more info.....whatever you click, it does
nothing and keeps coming back.....then when I try to

startup stops short of displaying desktop
Over X-mas I was downloading some windows updates for my
mom's computer. One of the updates was for explorer.
While it was downloading i left and came back to find an
error message for a "rundll.dll" file and now when it
boots it shows the desktop background but no icons or
taskbar. There is no sytem restore to go back to, nor was
there a startup disk ever made. Starting in safe mode has
the same results. changing the boot order so it boots
from the cd-rom drive with the ME cd in has the same
results as well. I need to get this system up and running
again asap. any help or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

When I right click on my start button to view my Windows
Explorer, the open folder is always my 'Windows' folder,
which I never use. How do I get that default to be 'My

Dll errors/Explorer default page and win min
Someone suggested my computer may have been hit with
a "virus". I don't know. But whatever happened, except
for these problems I have isolated, everything seems to be
O.K. I am using Windows ME.
I get two rundll error windows when boots up:

I think these two errors have to do with windows linking
to other programs I have on the computer, but this is just

Also, in Windows Explorer, my default home page keeps
changing to http://just.finditnow.com/. The internet
options screen will let me change it to, for example,
Yahoo. But, when I exit explorer and reboot, it
automatically defaults back to http://just.finditnow.com/.
My third and final problem is when I close windows I get
the pop-up screen that win min is not responding; do I
want to wait, cancel, etc. What is win min and how can I
correct this.

computer freezes (hangs) on startup
I am using windows ME and when I turn on the computer, it
freezes (hangs) without getting to my desktop. When it
freezes, nothing works including ctrl, alt, and delete.
I'm also unable to turn off the system with the on/off
