I had a similar problem Tuesday and the Registry fix (New) worked like a
charm. It's simple to do: just unzip the download and import it into the
Registry. No problems since and I restored the New functionality.

Reading the mail, I noticed that at least two other posts mentioned the same
problem. Perhaps some hacker got into your Registry. I had my software
firewall and AV down for a few hours while I was working around a few
problems with the firewall and possibly got infected. Spyhunter indicated
that some "parasite" was present. However, Spyhunter is very sensitive and
draws attention to cookies and such also.

I assume you're referring to SpyHunter. I'm not using it, but somehow it
became installed as a result of another download/installation. Currently,
I'm using Ad-Aware, McAfee Personal Firewall Plus and the free version of
AVG with my broadband access set fairly tight.

I hate uninvited software installations and work at uninstalling them and if
I'm lucky, get rid of them.

Mr. Schnabl, I urge you to use a better AV tool:

The Virus Bulletin

ICSA Labs - TrueSecure Corp.

AV-Test

I had NAV, but I couldn't get it to install, after I reinstalled Me. What AV
would you suggest? I could use an evaluation of McAfee's AV and integrate it
with my McAfee firewall.

I recommend using the trial AV and firewall bundle here:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/

Many WinME users have had success and no problems with it.
