cluttered desktop

My desktop is cluttered with icons. Would it be less stressful on my system
if I created folders on my toolbar and moved programs to a designated
folder. ie I created a folder called 'security programs' and moved all my
security related links(9) to this folder. I created other folders and did
the same. I vaguely remember that desktop icons take up extra memory. If
I'm incorrect please advise. If it has no significant differerence then
I'll go back to my original desktop. It doesn't bother me to have all the
icons on my desktop, but if it helps my system to have them in folders, I'll
go the extra click. system: 320megs memory tia Richard

I vaguely remember arguing with somebody about that... I can't see how
having a few extra pointers/icons in memory would slow down the OS by
anything other than the most miniscule degree.

If it bothers you though, you can play with
Start/Settings/Start&Taskbar/Advanced/Advanced
and have the folders appear in your Start Menu.

It might be less stressful on you, but it will not make any difference
to your system's performance.

Nothing out of the normal, Rick. Just thought if I moved groups of icons to
folders on toolbar it might free up some memory so as to help my system run
more efficiently. I thought that I read somewhere that the more icons on
the desktop the memory used. And with the size and needs of programs today,
any memory saved must be a plus. Thanks for the input, Richard
