When I try to use add/remove in the control pannel I get the
following..rundll32...error in your program, to keep working click ignore and
save your work in a new file etc.... I click quit and get the following
....rundll32 has caused an errorin setupx.dll. rundll32 will now close. The
window that use to show all the programs etc that I could add/delete is
blank. I have recently used a regedit program to delete unused registry
entries. I seem to recall reading a post or something somewhere that running
a program of this type could cause this problem but I don't recall the fix.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

See if anything here helps.
Joan

Have a look at the MS Knowledge Base article 309663 - "Control Panel,
Help,
and System Restore Are Empty or Partially Empty"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=309663) which might help in fixing
this
problem. If not please post details of what you changes you made.

You can extract a fresh (compressed) copy of rundll32.exe which is located
in and can be extracted from WIN_17.CAB file on the WinMe CD in the \win9x
folder using the msconfig.exe file extraction utility.

The WIN_17.CAB may also be on your C: drive in the Windows\Options\Install
or CABS folder

See also:-
"How to Extract and Replace a Protected File in Windows Me"

rundll32.exe should (normally) be extracted to the C:\Windows folder

Your setupx.dll error is usually the result of having deleted some empty
folders in the Program Files folder that were placed there when Win Me was
installed that are used for optional components of Win Me. Then I suspect
you used a registry cleaner which then removed some necessary entries
required for Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup to function because the
target folders were no longer present. You can avoid this happening in
future by not deleting such folders and similarly not deleting any values
in the key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\VarLDID

I would have attached a zip file containing a reg file containing all of
the required entries to my reply but since you are using the web
interface to these newsgroups rather than a proper newsreader you would
never see the attachment. If you want me to send you the repair patch
please e-mail me at mikem@mvps.org.
