Windows Me not working properly

I have windows Me and the past couple months my computer
has been acting funny. My internet provider will out of
no where just shut off. My computer will freeze and make
me restart it at any time. IT often give me errors when
i try to start a program, when other times it doesnt give
me those errors. Alot of programs i try to download
like..aol instant messenger will download and when i try
to install them it wont work right. Other people will
download the same thing and it will work fine. So
something has to be wrong with my computer or windows me.
I am not forsure. Can someone please give me things i can
do to fix these problems or give me links where i can
download things that will help fix it like virus
scanners. i dont have much money so if the virus scanners
cost dont bother because money is tight around here.

AVG antivirus, free, from http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php . As
with any antivirus, it is only as good as your latest set of
definitions....keep it UPDATED!

Adaware6, free spyware/adware app, www.lavasoft.de .
Spybot S&D, free spyware/adware app, http://www.safer-networking.org/

There are more, these are amongst the better.

There is a free anti-virus program at http://www.grisoft.com
See AVG Free Edition on LH menu; version 7 is not free.

Zone alarm is a free firewall at
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp
Click Home/Office Products on the left then ZoneAlarm when the list
expands. Then click ZoneAlarm in the LH column of the main window for
the free version.
