Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade IE5.5 to IE6 on a Windows ME system. Unfortuanetly
the update process refuses to perform the update. It just says it cannot
upgrade to IE6. Is there a temp file(s) I need to remove or some registry
setting I need to tweak. Please help. Thanks.

Hi,

Download and install Ieradicator:

http://www.litepc.com/ieradicator.html

This is a utility that will completely remove IE from the system. Dont run
it immediately after downloading it. If you are using outlook express, back
up your e-mail first.:

http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=270670 "How to Back Up and Recover Outlook
Express Data"

Then, download ie6setup.exe from :

http://tinyurl.com/1wau

Save the file to your desktop. Then, run IEradicator. After the removal is
complete, double click IE6setup. Installation will download the files from
the internet.

This should solve the problem.

Best of luck,

For the "unable to install all components" issue in WinME, try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Zee

This seemd to be the simplest approach and it worked like a charm. Thank
you very much and thanks to all who have replied.
