Per the Dell support people, I was told I have the LovSan
virus, however, reading through this message board, I'm
seeing someone had the problem I'm having well before this
(posted 8/3 at 5:36 pm), but no one posted a solution.

Any thoughts? (Though I also installed a game a week
before it worked fine in the meantime.) Let me know if
any other info would be helpful. Thanks!!

My friend has Windows ME on his computer and recently he
installed a game program on it. After restarting the
computer it gets stuck on the screen which shows the
Windows ME logo. The light blue bar at the bottom of the
screen keeps scrolling to the right, so it seems the
computer is not hung. But it does not go on any further
and just stays on this screen forever.

Be booted off a floppy to a DOS prompt and
ran 'scandisk /all' and 'scanreg /restore', but it did
not help.

I've never seen this problem before and there is no error
message, so Im not sure what to do next. We are
considering reinstall the OS again, but would like to
avoid it if possible. Would appreciate it if you can
help. Thanks.

Omar

Boot in Safe Mode (Hold Ctrl key down while booting until
menu appears and then select "Safe Mode Boot"). If
computer boots, click Start > Run and type "Msconfig"
without the quotes and click "OK". Click the
button "Selective Startup" and then uncheck "Load Startup
Group Items". Click apply and OK and reboot. If this
works then you need to find out which Startup Group Item
is causing the problem and uncheck it.

Windows Me Hangs on boot up - Update by Dan

Dan
Thu Aug 14 10:19:44 CDT 2003

Booting in "Safe Mode" didn't work (it still stopped at
the same welcome screen)

After copying files off my hard drive, I am going to re-
install ME and see if that works.

Will do that over weekend and update next week.

Thanks, Jack

I will give this a try when I get home and let you know.

Hypothetically, any suggestions if "safe mode" doesn't
work? Or should I cross that bridge when I get to it....

Windows Me Hangs on boot up - Solution by Dan

Dan
Mon Aug 18 08:59:43 CDT 2003

Wanted to finish this out in case anyone decided to see
how I went about it.

I gave up and just decided to reformat the hard drive and
re-install Windows Me. Though getting my personal files
off the drive was tough, I managed to do it.

Just a lesson to myself always back up!!
