I recently had a problem starting Windows ME so used
scandisk to detect and fix some problems. Then I restored
my system back to the previous day.

When I was done all of that I was able to successfully
start ME.

However, since then, when I open up Windows Explorer I
don't get the folders displayed on the left hand side of
the window. An empty pane is displyed with just an X in
the top right hand corner of the pane, which allows me to
close the left pane. Then the window just looks like
the "My Computer" window. I tried the Menu options, i.e.,
View, Explorer Bar, Folders. That didn't change anything.

Any tips or tricks on how to recover the folder pane in
Windows Explorer?

Try repairing Internet Explorer. It could help and could fail but worth a try. Go to Add/Remove as if you were going to uninstall
and there should be a repair option.
