Resources/Mouse Question
When I start my Windows ME machine I am at the 80% resource level. I think
I have taken all I can out of startup using msconfig but I have a Logitech
optical mouse, Avast! anti-virus, Internet Call Waiting and Adaptec cd which
are so integral I need them there. And I have visited the normal sites for
help in minimizing start up programs.
After I have been on the web for two or three hours, using IE 5.5, my
resource level drops to the 60% area, with no programs running. At that
point the mouse cursor cannot quickly follow the mouse movement, to the
point where it is annoying. Below 60% resource level, say at the 55% level,
the cursor delay is really impossible, requiring a reboot. Is there
anything that can be done about this in Windows ME besides starting at a
higher resource level, by deleting more start-up auto-run programs and thus

screen options
i have a problem when i try to modify the screen options (right clik on
desktop/properties).
a pop up window teels me that the "admisnistrator has deactivated the access
to the screen options" or something similar. it is very strange, since i
have not multiple users in this computer, and it never happened before. is
there a fast solution (delete the other users and work always as

I-worm/Mydoom.A
Two or three days ago, my AVG antivirus program told me I
had the virus Mydoom.A, which it could not clean or heal.
I've searced for a removal tool, but can't find one for

My computer freezes since uninstalling AVG 6.0 Please Help!
I downloaded AVG 6.0 (Anti-virus) several months ago, but after
downloading the latest update last week, and rebooting, a message
popped up saying something to the effect of "Couldn't upgrade 0% to
1%" "Press any key to attempt to load Windows".
And since then, my computer would sporadically freeze up while I was
using WindowsME.
Since it was basically useless without updating, I uninstalled AVG
today.
After I uninstalled, my computer rebooted automatically; an error
message popped up saying "Explorer has caused an error in GDI.exe,
Explorer will now close" then it crashed.
And now my computer freezes every time I use it!
Here are a few of the things that have led to my computer freezing
when I tried to use them since uninstalling AVG 6:
Winamp
AOL (4 times)
Spybot - Search and Destroy
GetRight (twice)
And when I click the button to restore my active Desktop wallpaper
it's an automatic freeze everytime.
AOL works roughly every 3 times I try it.
If nothing else causes it to freeze, shutting my computer down will.
I'm using a Compaq Presario 5WV271 with a 900MHz Athlon processor,
64MB memory, 40GB HD, and 8MB Nvidia TNT2 Graphics.
Does anyone know of anything that could help this problem? This is my
only computer, and I'm kind of desperate. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

IE 6.0 update not installing
I downloaded the Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pak to
install on Me system. When I run the install I select
Minimal Install because I only want to install IE not
Outlook, etc. The install gets as far as 92%, "Installing
Advanced Authoring" and stops with the error
message, "Setup was unable to install all components.
Please call all applications and try running setup again."
I have tried this several times. I keep getting the same
message. The ADVAUTH.CAB file IS on my system in the

Start up
Thank you for any help you might give.
When I start my WinMe it says that I have had an “improper=20
shutdown” and wants to run a “scan disk”. As far as I =
can=20
tell there was no improper shutdown. The Computer shut=20
down normally. It can take up to nine (9) hours for the=20
scan disk to run on C drive. If a problem is detected I=20
tell it to ‘fix problem’. At the next start up the same=20
thing happens.
Would reinstalling the program solve the problem?----

GDI.EXE
I'm getting an error message dealing with GDI.EXE
espically when using Internet explorer. The Error message
goes something like "iexplorer has caused an error in
GDI.EXE and will exit the application." It also sometimes
happens with Windows Media Player. Does anyone know a
solution to this problem? I've tried the fix Internet

image preview
When I receive jpg image attachments in Outlook, I used to
get the option to Open or Save. Now they just open
automatically, in "image preview." I want to save them to
use in other applications, but image preview only allows
me to resize or print. How can I either get back to the
above options, or get more options (such as Save As) in

Cannot find wininit.ini
I have tried to install latest security patch for internet
explorer issued 2/4/04. When I restart the PC, I get
message Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2, %1:%
2. Knowledge base says to find wininit.ini, change to
wininit.old and restart PC. When I search for
wininit.ini, I receive "There are no results to display."
What do I do?
In addition I found my system restore has not had any
restore points for over 2 months, and I have no check mark
in "Disable system restore" in the systems tools. When I
try to create a restore point, it says to restart
computer. It just cycles. Is this related to the

veiwing HTML in Outlook Express
I have recently lost the ability to view html pages sent
to my e-mail and are unable to set outlook back to the way
I had it. Suspect a Windows automatic update to be the

Opening Windows ME
When starting Windows ME it always opens the root folder c:/ also. I have
made all of the recommended changes to the registry but nothing has
worked.

win me starts by itself after the computer is turned off
My computer starts by itself after 10 or 15 minutes that I
shuted down, I have replaced operating system to be sure
that I have a clean installation (low level format) and
replaced mother board asus k7v, replaced video card for
sis305 because it has driver for sure for win me, and the
problem mersist, I have loaded the lates upgrades from
microsoft all critical and drivers. in my bios I have
disable the wakeup funtion for modem and network just to

Windows folder at startup
I have suddenly began getting the c:Windows folder
popping up on my screen at startup. I have looked
everywhere to find a place to tell the folder not to do

My Pictures folder doesn't display 'Get Images' option after reinstall of ME
The My Pictures folder no longer has the 'get images'
option after a OS reinstall of ME. My Canon Powershot G2
is recognized and when it is turned on the system
recognizes it but always launches the Canon software. I
want the option to option the My Pictures folder and
capture the images through this option as it is much
easier to do than Canon's software. Can anyone help me?

I cant acess any .dll files
Ok, It seems that i cannot acess any .dll files. I cant
play computer games, everything on my screen is idstorted,
and the color resolution is stuck at 16 bits. I've heard
that the rollback function might help but i really have no

Big problem with .dll files.....
Ok, I started up my computer one day, and everything
seemed all distorted when i logged in. Then i got a
message saying that companion had to close because a
required file "KERNEL.DLL" couldn't be found. And then i
got another error message saying that more .DLL files
could not be found. The only programs that have worked are
internet exploror and norton antivirus. I'm scanning for a
virus at the moment, but nothing so far... Please, can

Ok viruses wont leave
Ok so i got the two viruses which i posed about earlier
which is the iworm/ronoper.u and the iworm/sddrop. I
downloaded grisoft and it found the files that were
infected but it couldnt delete or remove them in any kind
of way. There are about 160 files infected. My system
restore isnt working. It shows me as having no back up
points. So i download norton and i scanned it and it
showed the infected files but when i went to the registry
and tryed to turn back what the worm had done it said
adminastrator wont let me or something like that. Said i
could not do it in other words. So i deleted norton
antivirus from my system and ran grisoft again and the
same thing happened. So i dont know what to do? Also when
i go into my computer, the windows file that on the c
drive is gone. I cant locate it anywhere. I need some

I-Worm/Ronoper.u Worm/Sddrop viruses
I downloaded avg and it found 162 files infected with "" I-
Worm/Ronoper.u "" and "" Worm/Sddrop "". I tried to remove
them and put the in the virus vault but no such luck. I
realized i got them from a peer 2 peer file sharing
system. Anyone have any ideas how to get rid of them?

Homeland Security threat level on desktop or in system tray?
I've been trawling the web for an object indicating the HLS alert
level on the desktop, hoping to find something that won't just change
color but also beep or whatever.
Worse than I tought, I could not find any DYNAMICALLY CHANGED object.
I've only found static elements that may or may not be there,
but won't change reflecting the threat level.

System Folder
Can anyone please tell me why I keep having problems with
C:\WINDOWS\system\ folder keep popping up whenever I turn
on my computer? I have already done a system scan to see
if there was any bugs or anything in it and there

How To Repair Files? - Win Me
How do I repair and verify file "LTMDMNTT.SYS"? This file is located in
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers. The properties box of this file does not list
author, version, or any other info.
Scan Disk insisted on running a physical test and stated it "found two bad
sectors but did not fix the errors."
One bad sector is in file "LTMDMNTT.SYS" which is about 503 kB in size. The
other sector is in an audio file (wav) which plays correctly.

Removal of "Unsafe Attachments"
Could anyone please tell me why, when I receive an
attachment from a secure source often Outlook Express
comes up with the message "OE has removed an unsafe
attachment" and I am unable to open the attachment? Could

Return XP to ME
My HP Pavilion came with Windows ME installed. I upgraded
to XP Home ED.
The software instructions said I could go back to ME if I
didn't reformat the hard
drive and change from FAT32 file system to NT file
system. Now I have a really
screwed up version of XP and I can't go back to ME. My
original OEM disks won't

Hard Drive
I changed out my hard drive and now it is telling it does
not have a c drive. I have tried to fdisk it and it
tells me "unable to access drive 1". Can anyone tell

Me thinks it has a setup pending
I am running Windows Me. When updating Internet Explorer,
the sytem errored (I can't remember the error). Anyway, my
problem right now is that Windows seems to think it still
has a "setup pending a system restart." I don't have
anything pending. I have reinstalled the Windows
Installer. Help???? Is there a flag or registry entry that
can be changed to rectify this?

I have Windows ME operating on an HP Pavilion machine
(7845).
My desktop is gone--looks like it reverted to a brand new
machine. A MS Works welcome message appears along with a
message saying that security won't allow me to load
active X (something like that--I'm writing from work not
home). The active x message pops up everytime I try to
open something. Also, a message saying that Norton Anti-
Virus can't check my email. Start menue doesn't work
either.
I can see all of my files when I run a search by right
clicking on My Computer, but can't open anything.
What happened prior to this:
I have internet content set with password to block out
porn and violence, but repeatedly get bombarded with ads
that can only be eliminated by shutting down the computer.
So, this happened Tuesday night and I hit control-alt-
delete, then shut down. Next day my desktop was gone as
described above.
Internet options recognizes my password, so I know all of
my info is still "in there" somewhere. How do I get it
all back.
I'm prepared to buy a new system, hardware, OS, et al.,
but desperately want to save my doc files and powerpoint
presentations. Most are backed-up, but not the most
recent items.
Please Help.

Unsafe attatchments on e-mail
I received e-mail (outlook express) with attached files.
I requested. Attatchments are showing but are not Live.
When I right click on message a header states "OE removed
access to the following unsafe files in your e-mail"
One is a word file from my daughter the other is a
embroidery file from an associate. I don't know why either
of these would be unsafe. I have looked through the Help
files on OE but cannot find anything about unsafe
attatchments. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem...as long as I get online
before the error message freezes on the screen then I can
use the online, other than that I cant use my computer at
all...im getting really frustrated with this. I have the
dll error msgs and cant find short cut messages. If anyone
can help you, I would appreciate the help also please
