    - WinME freezes/locks up after idle. My ME is configured as ICS dialup HOST for a P2P'd XP machine. I don't have any screensavers, hibernation, or suspend enabled. The systems are configured to also share files. Most of the time, this arrangement works extremely well. However, sometimes when I don't need to work on the ME machine and just leave it ON inorder that the XP machine can get access to the dialup, and walk away, after a little while the ME machine does not respond to mouse movement or other controls. The only thing that responds is ctl-alt-del to pop-up the tasklist, but then the arrow keys don't respond to make a selection. MEANWHILE, the networked XP machine is acccessing the dialup just fine! What could be causing this apparent lockup on ME? A reboot with ctl-alt-del seems to be my only option at that point. Fortunately the system doesn't trigger Scandisk - so I know there is no real corruption in the data files. Anyone familiar with this scenario? I have heard from another WinME user about a similar situation, but their ME machine was not networked; however, they discovered that the problem was "DMA - enabled" for the CD-R/RW device.     - ME freezes @ start up ME freezes frequently...upon restart the last time, it goes thru scan disk and does not complete the process but freezes the screen and mouse halfway through. I powered down again and closed scan disk before it finished and the screen is frozen at the startup page. The icons appear, but screen is gray and mouse is frozen.     - virtual memory I have an Intel Pentium 450 Mhz. with 384 MB of RAM. My virtual memory is set at 1152 MB. When I go online, after about 5 minutes a message comes up "running out of virtual memory" and it shuts me offline. Any idea what the problem is? Unique Tag: My Windows Tag: 226211

    - cmdninst and scandskw errors Turn on my Windows ME machine and as soon as I get to windowns, I get the following messages. CMDNINST has caused an error in KERNEL32.dll SCANDSKW has caused an error in KERNEL32.dll Error in explore.exe Reinstall windows.     - JV16 I used to have the Registry Cleaner jv16 and it did alot of useful registry cleaning for me. I loved it and was the only one I used. On a recent clean reinstall it got wiped out.     - Windows Updates To recover from a system crash I had to reinstall Windows ME. After reinstalling Windows ME I tried to update the OS from the internet. The update installation failed. Each time I restart the computer I receive a pop-up window to "Resume Windows Update: Internet Explorer and Internet Tools". The message further indicates that "...a previous installation was not completed." I have tried several times to complete this update installation without success. When I again attempt to download the update from the web I get a message about a pending update that must be completed.     - Unable to view advanced settings Hi Guys, I am using Win Me and few days before it got attacked by w32.explorezip.l.worm.I ran the removal tool and it did remove the virus.     - Kinda Baffled Presario 700 Pent 3, 64 mb's RAM, 10gb hard drive. WinME, 15 inch monitor. This system is not connected to the internet. Been running ok for a few years straight, and this weekend I decide to load 2 flight sims on it, Janes usnf97 and FS2002. It took a little playing but both installed ok, had to patch the unsf97 game and all seemed ok. You could tell that FS2002 was a strain on the system with only 64mb's of RAM. But anyway, a day or so went by with the sims working ok, and then fs2002 started to slow down a little and get a bit jumpy so I decided to close the program and reboot, Not the I think this is a flight sim issue, I don't, but I wanted to give you little recent hstory. I go to reboot and out of nowhere I get a password prompt, ( something I haven't seen for a few years ) but it also booted into a different resolution and color, it went from 800 x 600 to 640 x ???, and went from 32bit color to 16 bit color. Looked like it was in safe mode but wasn't. And,, I lost the mouse. No icon on the screen and a yellow mark on it in the device manager. The password prompt was set to default and without a mouse, it took a few tries to get the name box highlighted and change it to my name and then add a new password using just the keyboard. And I know how to make it stop popping up on bootup so no big deal there. Reinstalling the graphics drivers took care of the resolution change and that was back to normal. The mouse I haven't been able to get to work, well, partly. It works in safe mode but not normal mode. I've removed it from the device manager, and let windows refind it, it sets up the ps2 port but still no mouse icon.. I have reinstalled the drivers several times, no luck there either. The mouse is ok, safe mode proves that, and the ps2 port is ok as safe mode kinda proved that too, And in the device manager, I still have the yellow mark over the PS2 mouse entry. It's not there in safe mode Any clues on this one ? How do I get a mouse icon back and does anyone have a clue as to why this might have happened ? Thanks in advance Ros Tag: My Windows Tag: 226165

    - Unexpected automatic restart My computer (ME) unexpectedly restarts after about 30-45 minutes from switching off. Sometimes Scandisk will also start by itself and then I get an error message "started 10 times. Windows or another program has been writing to this drive."     - italic font displayed instead of intended font. Why? I can't figure this out. Have searched to no avail. This problem occurs not only online but offline as well. Instead of the intended font for certain applications, installers and webpages, I get a default italic font. Most commonly it is visible on the google search webpage as well as the msn homepage. Not all pages display this font however the majority do. It carries over to certain program update installers as well. Im not certain how else to describe this problem but its driving me crazy!     - Opening Links I asked this before, got an answer( It worked!), printed the answer but not the reason why it does it. Anyway, when I can't open links in Outlook Express is it because the default browser isn't the same as when I installed Outlook Express. If so could I just reinstall Outlook Express. What I was told to do was change the settings in URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy. Thing is now I can't make my default browser Netscape, Avant or anything without having this same problem.     - Lost OE mail folders in compacting In Outlook Express, some mail folders that I compacted then disappeared. Any ideas for recovering them? In Windows/Application Data/Identities there is a subdirectory with some .dbx files with the same name as the missing mail folders, but with a Word icon; opening the .dbx file launches Word and opens a Word file with a bunch of gobledygook.     - Problems Upgrading from ME to XP Pro I've tried all-shapes to install XP Pro with no success yet. I run set-up.ex and act on the prompts etc. The system tells me the various items not compatible with XP etc,.There apear to be none that will cause a set-up failure. Anyway the system does all the anylising etc and downloads the initialisation files, runs the automatic restart cycle. The system reboots whereby the XP installation screen reappears for a brief moment only to be replaced with a screen that has the message : Insert the CD labeled - Windows XP Professional CD.ROM into your CD-Drive - Press enter when ready. I dully press enter - nothing I remove the CD from the Drive and re-insert etc - nothing You name it I've tried it. I've been on the Microsoft site and looked at all the repoerted faults and fixes - perhaps I'm missing something ? When I turn on my computer, and when it reaces the Windows
Me sign it will always freeze and my computer will make a
wistling type of noise. So I always reeboot my computer
and put it on normal mode because that is the only way it
will start any ideas how to prevent it from frezzing at
the windows me logo?
