Janet,

Many people have many differing opinions. Some don't like WinMe at all,
while others do, indeed. Most programs/devices that run on Win98SE will do
very well on WinMe. You might also like MovieMaker and a few other features.
If, however, Win98SE is doing what you need, there may not be too many
benefits to upgrading to WinMe.

ME is getting a bit long in the tooth. Rather than upgrade from 98 to ME you
should see if the hardware and applications would be compatible with XP. Or
if you don't have any problems stay with 98.
Microsoft is starting to reduce the support level for ME. At some point in
the not to distant future, new updates and patches will no longer be
available for ME. If nothing else, the number of service packs, upgrades,
and patches that need to be applied after a winME install are getting out of
hand. The hassle with some of the applications is involved. Not only will
you need to update ME, you will need to update applications as well. Some of
this stuff is even order dependent in that you can get caught between winme
updates and app updates as to the proper order.

(And, I even like and use ME.)
