My WinME computer is broken. The OS boots up, but
explorer never starts (the desktop background appears but
the start menu and desktop icons never appear). I have
the latest MS upgrades, McAfee Virus scanner, and
ZoneAlarm firewall.

When I switched harddrives and checked, the files all
seemed to be there.

Does anyone know of what could be causing this and how to
check for it?

Try a SCANREG /FIX from a DOS boot using an ME floppy.

See if that fixes it
