In MOS-DOS mode, scandisk reports: invalid long filename
entry;remove with scandisk in windows mode.

I keep running scandisk in windows mode both by: run
command,and by icon no results.

Using start:find i have deleated: invalid long filename
entrys,
and anything with the (~)because of the 8.3 for MOS-DOS
long file name rule.

Need easy way to find and deleate this Windows file.

Does it give any name? In c:\scandisk.log perhaps?

Make sure that the setting is enabled under the "Advanced tab"
"Check files for invalid names" (iirc)

That isn't the same thing.

Clean out the Temporary Internet Files folder. This is a prime suspect
for "illegal names". Cookies is another, but you might not want the hassle
of losing all your saved site-settings.

Use the scandisk in windows mode to fix the problem.
I use C: scandisk and
C: scanreg in MS-DOS mode

and

I use scandisk by icon and
start, run: scandisk set up as above
cookies and temp files and task manager all killed
all logs killed as i can find them
Scandisk in DOS and windows mode both have always been
in manual
display always
no log file
deleted cross linked files
free lost file fragments
check files for everything
prompt before fixing checked and
report MS-DOS mode name length errors checked also.

I will check the C: scandisk.log

I use WinME (OEM),sygate firewall, avg, spybot,
spyblaster, ad aware, housecall every week,X setup pro
automatic on manual, Big Fix , CCLEANER 1.0.3.69 which
kills everything on startup

very well at 75% - 89% Performance.

I guess this includes "invalid filenames".

The only thing I can suggest is that you boot to DOS and delete the TIF and
Cookies folder. E.g.-

smartdrv
deltree c:\windows\tempor~1

Or if you have Norton, you could try Disk Doctor.

Why would you want to do that?

Scandisk for DOS holds the setting elsewhere.
