    - can not get Windows ME to re-load properly after a recovery and fo When I recently tried to use the recovery cd's to re-install Windows ME on a HP Pavillion machine. Ir rand disc 1 and 2 okay, told me to remove the second disc and click Ok to begin using Winddows ME, but when I click Ok this come come up: VMM32.VXD, if this file is not your Pathm you may need to re-install Windows and I try again ti use the recovery disc and end up with the same error and Windows ME never gets started or able to us.     - can't access 1 (one) web site Running WinME, fully updated, with AVG Free, ZoneAlarm Free (updated to last version compatible with WinME), scanned with AdAware, Spybot and Stinger. All clear. Rolled back a few days with System Restore. On trying to access my on-line banking site, get the "notify windows of this error" pane, no other details given. Rolled back to IE5 still can't access this one site, but get "error in MSVCRT.DLL" message. This only seems to happen to this one website. Any ideas O gurus before I try using my OEM restore disk?     - icons dont load, scan disk find errors and fixes Twice now, when I've booted up, the icons dont load to the desktop. I shutdown, and when I reboot scandisk tries to run, but cannot complete (waited 15 mins). I then rebooted to safe mode and ran scandisk. It found errors and fixed them, both times. I've also run a scanreg /fix after the first time it happened. Any suggestions ? Also, what does it mean when scandisk finds an error on the drive? I've recently installed Norton A/V 2005.     - Minimized windows disappears I have been searching the net for a solution to a little problem with Win ME, with no luck. The problem is when I minimize windows, they does not appear on the taskbar. I can use Alt+TAB and switch between them, but they where supposed to show on the taskbar. I believe that I need to have itunes installed on the pc in order to work & that perhaps it has a tiny cd installtion disk.     - Telephony Problems/Sound Recorder HI all, Im new to the groups so Im sorry if I post this the wrong way. My question is this.. Ive noticed that when I go into the control panel , I see an icon that says "Telephony". Previously when I clicked it, I got a box where I could put in ppl's names and numbers to dial so that I could make calls thru the pc. Now when I click on it..it says "Sound Recorder" ..I guess to "record" sounds.. but I cant dial numbers thru it anymore nor is it even the same box..     - Help w/webcam mic etc I am on HP w/Win Me. I hooked up a webcam (amcap version 8:00) with a *built in* mic, I installed software. I can see my image when I open the program but no sound. I can not figure out how to adjust the mic part. I want to use ii with MSN messenger. I opened messenger to do I mic test. it says mic not detected,. make sure mic is turned on., the webcam does not have a mic switch. I do have it plugged into the back of my tower where the "mic" icon is. I am confused about this. On the plug (I don't know the tech word for it) from, my monitor,. it has pink plug with a mic icon on it. When I set up my computer I plug that into the mic slot on my tower, What is that for? I did unplug that one (pink) and plugged in the one that came with the webcam. Would like to communicate with grandkids via MSN messenger.     - VCOND(03) error when in DOS I'm constently getting the following blue-scree error when I'm trying to launch a particular Win32 program in a DOS window: "File Name: VCOND(03) + 00002409 Error: 0E : 0028 : C02C737D" I am not sure what I did to precipitate this problem. I can open an MSDOS window and do other "DOS" things and run other programs just fine. But one particular program seems to keep causing the error.     - WINME Takes HOURS to boot Working on friend's Samsung VM8000 series laptop; ME, 112megs RAM, Pentium III. Uninstalled old Norton Antivirus --- proceeded normally, invited to manually uninstall some components so I binned the folder --- installed Antivir. All OK till boot time. I get the ME flash screen then a blank screen with hourglass, and lots of seek activity. Last night I went to bed after two hours of an incomplete safe-mode boot. This morning the screensaver had popped up and I could not get it to go away. Two hours ago I started a normal boot. Right now the ScanDisk window is up. I hit Close 20 minutes ago - nothing, and still lots of seek activity. The problem is compounded by my inability to boot a diskette or CD. I guess the BIOS is set to hard disk first, but I can't get into the BIOS! I've tried every one of 14 key combinations I found on the Web. None of them let me into the BIOS. Any thoughts out there?     - Start-Up Sounds Are Different,Mouse Goes Nuts, Desktop Rearranges, Applications Close I've had pretty decent luck with ME until the past 3 weeks. The problems are: the start-up sounds sound different, but the computer boots-up OK. Once I start my work and at any given time, my mouse moves uncontrollably across the screen, my desktop rearranges itslef, the toolbar changes and the mouse right click pop-up menus start appearing. Also, applications just shut-down in the middle of my work. I've lost a lot of unsaved work, though I do try to save finished work about once a minute. I downloaded the last 4 or so ME updates from Microsoft Windows, and as best as I can recall, this is about the time these problems started. Any help? Please!!!! The ME Windows Explorer file list display, set to "Details", is in two panes - folders and files - but neither show any icons. I would like to have it display same as the 98SE machine.     - Can't write to usb storage device I have one of the mp3/player usb devices that takes a SD flash memory card. Was working fine, until I opened up Windows Media Player, now I can't write to the drive. I use Winamp as a matter of course and "never" use WMP except this one time and suddenly the device stops working. All the diagnostics seem to say it is working - I can play music through the computer from the drive or listen with the earphones. It still has plenty of room ~500 mb. The properties gives the volume name and will let me change it, and gives the correct drive size etc.. Drive letter is correct. Appears to allow me to defrag the drive - I stopped it before it did the whole drive. Error tells me it can't create file or directory when I try to drag and drop or copy the file using menus. It won't let me create a new folder on the drive either. Error message doesn't point to a reason for not allowing me to "create the directory or file" just that it won't do it. And it is most definitely not "OK!" (wonder what bonehead came up with that word to put on error messages?) Tried restarting the computer, removing the flash memory and replacing it, all the obvious stuff. The memory is not write protected. Lights on the storage device indicate it is working and waiting for input. Is there something I should/can check?     - Hardware Temperature Hi there :-) I'm using Millennium--and no big problems with that :-))--but last year in early July I lost a 3-month-old motherboard to overheating. I have a another new motherboard of course (a VIA, along with two additional fans ventilating the case), this last with its own hardware monitoring program which I have set to load at start-up. The app's default overheat temperature for both the CPU and "system" is 122°F which, according to a friend, is too high--making me wonder if the VIA folks really tested the limit of their mobo's endurance! So I've reset the overheat temps to 110°F and am now obsessed with checking the "polls" :-( I live in a low-tech farm house with no air-conditioning and no central heat (have fans and wood-heating stoves) in rural Missouri, USA where the summers are HOT everywhere and the winters indoors are chilly. The thing I most love to do with my computer is write visual basic scripts for special effects in Outlook Express email (making letters my "works of art" '-) This creative and very satisfying hobby entails lots and lots of "previewing" and thus lots and lots of "processing." So when it's 80+°F in the house at boot-up, I start out computing with my processor at about 93° even with four fans running in the case and a floor fan blowing over it all (including me); and after only a couple of script previews the processor hits 100°. With the outdoor temps these last three months consistently in the 90's day after day and mid-70's night after night--and in view of my unfortunate experience last year--I haven't played much with scripts this summer :'(( What I'd like is more information/experience about how hot is too hot and also how cold is too cold to be running a computer (the VIA monitor's "hysteresis" defaults of 68°F set off the low-temp alarm last winter!) I installed the new modem without a hitch--even though it took me another few days to get motivated to do it--and my slow and stalling downloading problems are history :-)) But the fff files are still getting dropped into the Windows folder.     - Startup Troubleshooting My older computer has been freezing on the opening screen of Microsoft Windows ME. I have a newer computer now, but there is some data (photographs, documents, etc.) that I would like to retrieve from my old computer. The only way I can open this computer now is in safe mode. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can recover this data? It doesn't run the CD-ROM or the USB ports in safe mode, and my new computer doesn't have a floppy disk drive.     - Unable to install Flash I have a network with 2 wired computers (one running XP, and the other ME). They are connected to the internet through a router, so technically speaking, neither computer is considered Primary on the network; the router is Primary. After setting up the network this way, Flash stopped working on the ME computer, and I can't figure out why! It's not limited to the internet, either; a local .swf file wouldn't run, either (no error or anything, it just never opened the IE window). I tried to reinstall Flash, but when I get to the window that says "now installing," nothing happens. No window pops up asking if it's OK or anything like that. I've gone through all of the information on the Adobe website: I uninstalled Flash, which went through fine, and manually deleted the npswf32.dll file, then tried to install Flash again... same results. The security settings in IE are set to the default, and I double-checked that ActiveX is enabled (with a prompt). I turned off the Windows Firewall on the XP computer (there is no firewall on the ME computer), but that still had no impact. And of course, the PC is virus and spyware free. Any ideas?     - Power Light On CPU Hi: I have a Toshiba desktop and everything was working fine and lost internet connection. Rebooted and desktop screen came back, but cursor was locked in the upper left hand portion of screen. Computer at this point was totally locked up. I turned the power source for the computer off, as everything at this point was locked up. Upon turning the power source to the computer back on and hitting the Power Button to turn on the computer the Green light comes on for a second and then goes off. I can hear the fan and computer still running inside, but cannot get desktop screen back or monitor to come back on. I have the monitor turned on, but nothing is displayed. I thought possibly the Power Supply had gone out, but then I can hear the computer running, The Green light that comes on briefly when first turning on the computer goes back out and I have nothing on the monitor. Have tried turning the power source on and then the computer, but am getting the same results each time as described above. Also have plugged power cord directly into wall outlet and nothing appears. The display is great, but the menu functions and menu function keys are really hard to operate. The operating manual is not very well written and is confusing. Thanks for the information.     - New Monitor-Display Problem I use to get on my grand-daughter for using the term totally constantly, now I have found a use for it. I TOTALLY GIVE UP. I purchased a new 19 inch LED Widescreen Monitor. A CD Came with it, but all it contains is the operating manual in 8 different languages, no drivers. It is a Emprex Brand, Model LM 1902, description-19 inch TFT LED Monitor. I hooked up the new monitor and found there is a 1 3/8 inch black area to the left and right of the display which is perfectly centered. The display fits the height of the screen which is 10 inches, but as I described, the width is 2 3/4 too narrow, 1 3/8 inches on each side. My computer, running Windows ME, utilizes a Intel 82810 Graphics Controller. I set the resolution to every setting available and I just get larger and smaller fonts and Icons, the window remains the exact same size. I downloaded the latest available driver from Intel, with no avail, same thing. Any clues how to widen the display so it fills the entire screen width, which is 16 inches.     - Freezes! Hi. Back again! Just about every site I go to freezes for about 2 or 3 minutes or doesn't load at all.     - Invalid system disk My boot sequence is cd rom/floppy/hd. When I last shut down, I did not take out my floppy disk after saving my work. Now, when I boot up, it says " Boot from ATAPI cdrom - no bootable cd rom...... To start IBM Product Recovery Press F11. Invalid system disk, Replace the disk and press any key" With floppy as the 1st boot and using the WIN98 starup disk, and at A: SCANDISK C: , it did fix something and reports no bad sectors. However, when I try to boot up as per normal (without the floppy) , it still give me the above message " Boot from................ Invalid system disk...........press anay key".     - defrag I have a ME older pc that I just got. On my newer windows XP home edition pc's, I can analyze the drive and then chose to defrag if I want to or not.     - Recyle Bin I plan on deleting 5 yrs worth of temp files using JV16 Registry Cleaner. According to a recent analysis of this file it has some 286,000,000kb stored in it. In the event I need to recover any of the deleted files, the program designer of the reg cleaner tool suggests sending it first to the recycle bin.
