My WIndows Me freezes when I boot my computer. Everything

Solutions tend to require more information than you have supplied. For
example has your system always been slow to start or has it just started
happening. If new then what changes, hardware, software, drivers, new or
upgraded did you make to your system around the time this problem started? If
recent have you considered using system restore to roll back your system to
before these problems started (only do this if the problem has started in the
last week)? Have you checked your system for malware, both malicious and
commercial using your preferred antivirus application equipped with current
updated viral reference signatures and using the various freeware tools such
as AdAware, SpyBot, BHODemon and CWShredder?

This problem started last week. What is system restore?
How can I do it? Is it something similar to emptying the
hard drive and re-installing Windows Me?

thanks for your help

What changes did you make to your system last week? Undoing such changes is
to be preferred to taking the sledgehammer approach of using system restore.

System restore is a mechanism that allows users of Win Me (and also XP) to
roll their system back to a previous state or checkpoint by reversing changes
made to program and system files and the registry (but not user data) since
the checkpoint was checkpoint. A good place to start learning about System
Restore is Win Me's Help & Support where you will find several articles to
this feature of Win Me. Incidentally system restore will be of no use to you
unless you have installed the system restore (290700) patch from the Windows
Update site. Without this patch any checkpoint you might have is worthless
and will have been since 8 Sept 2001.
