My system has a new trick. When it boots it apparently
does not load the virtual device. This is causing
problems with a couple of programs. Can anyone give a
suggestion?

Thanks.

Sorry for being so vague. The only error message I'm
getting is program won't load "since the virtual device is
not loaded." If you can give me a idea on how to get a
more precise error message I'd gladly follow the lead.

I asked for the EXACT error message! <g>

When does the message appear?
if during the boot process, Try using the Confirm mode option at boot, and
see what the last thing loading is before the error message comes up.

Try booting to Safe Mode - do you still get the error? What's in the
MSCONFIG |Startup listing?
