A systems "guru" has recommended that I specify my own virtual memory
settings to about 2 and 1/2 times my RAM (128 MB). It seems to me everytime
I see a reference to this setting in this NG, it ALWAYS says to let Windows
manage this setting.
Any insight as to the benefits, if, indeed, any ?

I let the OS choose the size BUT...I always set to the VM to another hard disk. On IDE both
hard disks are masters so they are NOT in a master/slave relationship. SCSI doesn't have a
master/slave relationship so I just point it to a different fast hard disk. The above helps
to further speed up operations. My present WinME PC uses Ultra160 SCSI.

I remeber getting a newsletter from Microsoft that recomended the user set
it himself to at least twice the system RAM.

I have ALWAYS set my own. Right now I have 2Gb of RAM and a 2Gb swap file -
on a different hard drive.
