I have gotten a computer with the file VXDLDR deleted.
How do I fix that?

What operating system are you running? In Win Me vxdldr.vxd is built into the
monolithic file vmm32.vxd when the system is first installed rather than
appearing as a discrete file. In vmm32.vxd is present and other wise OK you
can extract a new copy of vxdldr.vxd from the Win Me cab set and place it in
your Windows\System\VMM32 folder.

You will probably need to do this from DOS in which case you will need to use
the EXTRACT command that is on the Win Me boot floppy. Details of how to do
this can be found in KB 129605 - "HOW TO: Extract Original Compressed Windows
Files" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=129605).

Kimber,

As I mentioned an installed Win Me system would normally has no file
vxdldr.vxd since this file with 30 or more other drivers is built in to the
monolithic file vmm32.vxd which was built when the system was first installed.
I would NOT recommend using a copy of vmm32.vxd from another system as the
contents varies depending on some of the basic hardware in use.

You could however try extracting a copy of vxdldr.vxd from your husbands Win
Me CD. You should find it in the file WIN_20.CAB which is located in the
Win9x folder on a Win Me CD or in either the windows\options\cabs or
windows\options\install folder on your, or your husbands, hard disk. Use
MSConfig | General | Extract File ... to extract the file and then copy to
your windows\system\vmm32 folder.
