I currently have Windows ME and i want to upgrade to XP. Is ME still kept on
the Hard disk as i do not have a disk to re-install it. The reason i want to
still keep ME on the disk is because XP gave me a warning that things like my
Modem may not work.
Thanks

Check your listing of incompatibilities, and see if the manufacturers of the
affected hardware/software have produced new drivers/patches for XP.
Download the new drivers before doing the upgrade, and burn them to CD (or
whatever) before installing XP.

Assuming you have enough disk space, AND opt not to install XP into NTFS
(i.e. you leave the filesystem as FAT32, which Win ME can use) then XP will
uninstall itself from Add/Remove Programs, and leave ME where it was.

ALWAYS back up your critical data before upgrading. In your case, your
critical data includes the contents of the C:\Windows\Options tree - from
which files you should be able to reinstall ME if worse comes to worst - and
the Product Key (which is held in the registry - do a search in Regedit for
the work 'ProductKey' without the quotes, and make a note of the
25-character key found there)
