I have a pal who got an ISP disk and thought he needed to install it to
access the internet. Now he has a branded IE and it's a real mess. I
sort of think that I may have to remove IE6 SP1 but maybe it can be
"unbranded"? If you want to know how bad it is the disk is dated
06/2004 and it installed Netscape 4.79 on his pc. Is this one of these
hopeless situations, should I just uninstall and reinstall IE 6?

John,

I'm quite confused, are you saying that the disk from his ISP both branded
IE6 and installed Netscape? Nevertheless removing unwanted branding is
quite trivial and should not require the removal and reinstallation of
IE6. Branding simply involves the addition of a few entries to the
registry together with the addition of a few small bmp files to, usually,
the system folder.

One method of removing branding from Internet Explorer is as follows:
Start | Run and type in the box:
rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear
and the click OK
also
rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll, BrandCleanInstallStubs
and click OK.

Thanks Mike. Yes, it branded IE and took over the IE search engines
like a BHO, and ALSO installed Netscape 4.79! To boot I think it broke
OE! Absolutely retarded! His wife picked up this cd from Aliant
district office in Campbellton, NB less than a week or two ago! In a
brand spanking new box that is printed with new Aliant logos and artwork
that are less than one year old! The logo/artwork on the box is the
same that is on the cover of the February 2005-2006 telephone directory
#34101. They're my ISP provider too, small place here only one real ISP
provider. Anyhow I sent them a web form feedback from their support
page, along with my account ID and this is the autoreply I got:

"Your email message was blocked.

I guess it must've been the puck line. Some of them Canucks miss hockey
quite a bit.
