When the computer is turned on, an error box pops up that
reads: Unable to read settings from Windows registry. The
title bar reads: trayapp. I simply click 'Okay' and the
box goes away. But how can I stop this from happening at
all?
I ran a search with the error message on Google and
microsoft.com, but no results were found.

No results in Google?
What about:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&scoring=d&q=trayapp&sa=N&tab=gw
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&scoring=d&q=trayapp

Check your startup.
Check in Msconfig for any oddities.
(Start-Run-MSCONFIG-Startup tab)
If you cannot see anything in Msconfig then:

Start-Run-msinfo32
Click the + beside Software Environment to expand.
Click Startup Programs
Ctrl+A to Select All, Ctrl+C to Copy.
Paste that information in your message.
