Hi there, can someone please help with a Recycle Bin problem ?

The problem is that when I send something to the Recycle Bin (as I
always have done), when I then look in the "Recucle Bin" either using
Windows Explorer or the Recycle Bin Icon on the Desktop nothing is
there !

The Recycle Bin Icon shows that there IS something in the bin (i.e.
"litter" is shown in it).

On the "Properties" for Recycle Bin I have the "Display delete
confirmation dialog" ticked.

Windows explorer sees file in all the other location as normal.

I have not altered anything lately but when I deleted by accident a
file last night I realised I could not retrieve it in the usual way.
I have been emptying the recycle bin from the Desktop icon, so I do
not know how long this problem has been there.

I really need to retrieve the file, so I dare not empty the recycle
bin now !

Please help me !

Many Thanks,

Steve

Hi Thanks for this, but before i try it I have two points to make :-

1) I have a COMBINED Recycle Bin for C and D drives not two seperate
ones.

2) Won't this delete all yhe contents of my Recycle Bin ?
I really need to recover once of the files that is actually in the
Recycle Bin if possible !

Thanks,

Steve

1. If they are combined, then you don't need to do the other drives.
2. Get "Restoration" http://hccweb1.bai.ne.jp/~hcj58401/
See if it will restore the file for you.

Good Luck

Last Note !

I used the little program (Restoration) and got my missing file back
safe and sound !

Amazing program and freeware too .... I remember using a Microsoft one
similar to it on WFWG 3.11 (actually came with WFWG) ... dont' know
why Microsoft dropped it !

Anyway I am one Happy Bunny now :-))

Many Thanks "Koldbear" !!!!

LATEST NEWS !!

I have found the cause of the original problem now !

It is a program called "Window Washer V5.0.0.6".

I have recently updated to this version and when the Recycle Bin is
'cleaned' with it then anything put in there does not show up as I
have previosuly stated..... UNTIL it is emptied .... then everything
is OK .. once again re-booting does not cure it ... it has to be
emtied ONCE .. then everythin is OK ....

I think I will drop them a line and report it as a "bug".

I have now unchecked the box "Recycle Bin" (so it does not 'wash' it)
in Window Washer and everything is fine now !

Steve.

File shredders also have that effect on the RB. They have a tendency to wipe
out the desktop.ini file that is hidden in there.
