Using USB Intelligent Stick with laptop (Windows ME)
I'm not sure what the problem is but I've been trying to transfer an Access
database to my Windows ME laptop from my desktop using a GE Intelligent Stick
USB device. I have Office 2000 installed on the laptop so it has Access 2000
on the laptop. So why can't I open the database when I try to? I keep getting
the message 'c:\ohiotraders_be.mdb' is not a valid path, etc. I've tried
opening it from the E drive (the external device) and also from the C drive,
where I've saved it.
Maybe someone will have an answer for this. I want to be able to take this
database on the road with me. Tag: New Thunderbird Update Tag: 290610

MY GMAIL HAS BEEN CORRUPTED BY A CYRILLIC LANGUAGE
I run my PC on XP Pro SP2 and use the email address

spam, etc.in my real life email
Recently it has somehow become corrupted and displays everything in a
strange, Cyrillic type language (except the email messages, which are
in English)
I tried reinstalling Gmail to no avail, and I cannot find a language
selector. I have also checked my settings in Regional Languages

Ethernet On Windows ME
I have Windows ME on another computer in my home and I also have an ethernet

How to open downlaoded files? Options
To open a downloaded file: 1. Follow any instructions the file provider has given to place the downloaded file or files in a specific folder on your computer. If your file or files are already in this specific folder, skip to step 2. If you did not receive instructions about placing the downloaded file or files in a specific folder, create a new folder on the desktop, and then copy the files into this folder:
a. Right-click the desktop, point to New, and then click Folder.
b. Type downloaded_files, and then press ENTER.
c. Copy the file or files to this new folder. To copy a file, right-click it, click Copy, right-click the destination folder, and then click Paste. After you copy the file or files to the downloaded_files folder, verify that all the files were successfully copied. After you verify that all the files were copied, you can delete the original copies of the files.
2. Open the folder that contains the file or files (or the downloaded_files folder), and then double-click the file you want to open. If you have a program installed on your computer that is capable of opening the file, when you double-click the file, the file should open in the appropriate program. For example, if you double-click a document (.doc) file and Microsoft Word for Windows (any version) is installed on your computer, the file should open in Word. If you do not have a program that is capable of opening the file, you receive an "Open With" dialog box that prompts you to select a program to open the file with. If you receive this prompt, it indicates you do not have a program that is capable of opening the file, and you should obtain and install a program for this purpose. For information about which program to install, the provider of the file should be able to confirm which program is needed to open their file.

Unauthorized credit card use
Quite recently I was alerted by my credit card company that there appeared
to be several unusual charges on my account (for which I thanked them
profusely). My wife and I have our identically-numbered cards in our
possession, so I knew they hadn't been lost.
I know well that when one hands his card to a server in a restaurant, for
example, one temporarily loses all control over any security he may have
had, and that's a definite possibility.
I also know that there are keylogger programs that may exist on my computer
(although I don't know how they might have got there). My suspicion was
raised a notch when Alwil's avast! antivirus program detected a Trojan horse
yesterday. (I regret that I immediately deleted the Trojan and cannot,
therefore, provide any information about it.)
Can a Trojan horse be responsible for this? Does it sound at all like a
keylogger problem? And lastly, if so, does anyone have a recommendation for
keylogger detection and removal?
TIA.

Ad-aware
Well, it's been weeks now. I've e-mailed them twice asking how I'm supposed
to acquire my copy of Ad-aware Plus as per my 2000 purchase that included
lifetime updates. I've had initial acknowledgment of both e-mails but no
further response. I shall henceforth consider Lavasoft to have become a new
Symantec - their products don't work and they don't give a puck about their
customers. I shall assume they have decided lifetime updates promised in the
early days was a mistake. I expect that in court they will try to argue that
Ad-aware 2007 is a different product - and, indeed, that that is why they
named it so!
I shall spread the word that they - like Symantec - are not the sort of
company it's wise to trust your valuables with! Of course, it doesn't seem
to hurt Symantec - which is what the cynical puckers will be counting on.
Like with NAV and NIS there're always plenty of mugs who will argue that
it's the best product on the market! Plenty of customers for the medicine
show!

!0 Minutes Internet Stops
A friend, still running WinME, has suddenly experienced a stoppage of his
internet connection after ~10 minutes. The computer does not freeze up,
still able to run applications. In order to regain internet connection,
must reboot.
Suspiciously like an overheating CPU, we swapped over his components into
another functionally similar computer. Surprise! Surprise! Same
problem. Then we swapped his USB-LAN adapter for a PCI LAN card. Same
problem.
He's run all his housekeeping utilities, Ad-Aware, SpyBot, Registray
mechanic, et al....., but problem persists.
Suggestions?

Fastest Stable MOBO with certified Win ME drivers?
Fastest Stable MOBO with certified Win ME drivers?
What's the ideal fastest main board (MOBO) for Win ME?
With ME certified drivers available? Stable?
Do any makers of new main boards still
make ME certified drivers available for them?
Win ME has a 137 Gig Hard Disk Drive size limit I saw somewhere.
Is that physical max, partition max, or total max?
If I get a new MOBO with an EIDE and 4 SATA ports
would Win ME limit me to 4 or 6 137 Gig hardware drives,
a bunch of 137 Gig partitions on a much bigger physical drive,
or is the limit 137 Gig total for all hard disk drives? Tag: New Thunderbird Update Tag: 290164

'Explorer error"
One of the messages that always pop up upon boot up is
'Explorer
Explorer has caused an error in <unknown>. Explorer will now close> ......."
When I closed it, what ever dialogue that I have open will close and goes

Thinking it may be my usb adapter driver causing the problem, so I
uninstall it and now I cant re-install as the pc will always hang when I try

supply.
How can I resolve the "explorer" issue, as I think that is the root cause

need help with win xp repair install
I've been working on our church office pc, and am going to need to do a
WinXP repair install. I haven't done a clean or repair Windows install, so
am trying to anticpate potential glitches with the repair. Some questions:
A. Will some of our peripheral programs survive the Windows repair (I
assume the repair simply overwrites all the Windows files/programs in the
OEM CD)? Maybe those that don't have any registry or shared file tie with
Windows may be OK.
B. Will our data files survive the repair install? I've already pulled off
onto CD My Documents, Favorites, Outlook Address Book, Sent and Inbox email,
etc, in case the ones on the hard drive are deleted or damaged. Tag: New Thunderbird Update Tag: 290141

What is?
I won't say where I found this - not yet, anyway. It would bias your
judgement - and biased judges should stay in the courts where they belong!
But I'd be interested in opinions as to what the hell this list means!(?).
It puts me in mind of the BBC World Service coded massage broadcasts of
WWII.
Does it have anything to do with National Security?
This is the list:
Arkansas Chuggalug
Bow Locks on a Summer's eve
Drystone Wall
Grottlebank-in-the-Dyre
Ground-Based Radar
I believe you have my ears
One school of fish

What a difference a nnnn! makes
You call those ears?
Maybe it's a list of race horses? I don't know, I'm not into the double

Getting ME to recognise a NTFS formatted disk
Hello,

I also have an ex-Laptop HDD with ME on it.
All works fine except I can't get the ME to see the large disk, so cannot

gotta say.. so long ME
I'm am almost dissapointed to do this, afterall, ME has been a fine
performer eversince I discovered this ng and other ME forums on the 'net to
help me tame ME enough to be able to believe that I would never need to move
to XP, ...but recently, I've been very disappointed in ME's performance and
reliability eversince I changed my video card to a newer and "better" one
(worked ok for a while - it only caused a problem with Shutdown), and
eversince I upped the ram from 256 to 768. The various tweaks to fool ME
to limit it to 512 or LESS is not working. I am actually running out of
resources sooner! Very annoying. The whole idea of adding more ram was to
be able to use it. There was a modest speed boost in screen rendering, and
application loading with the extra ram, but I still can't seem to have more
apps open at the same time which I need.
So.. I'm moving on to Ubuntu. The winapps that I absolutely need will be
hosted on my XP'd Thinkpad.
ME first came into my life when I purchased a new 1gHz, AGP 2x 64meg, 256meg
ram, 40gig box in year 2000. The first upgrade it ever needed was a
critical one - a new 120gig hdd. About 3 years into its life ME had started
to insist on Scandisk at every boot (even after successful scandisk and
Shutdown), plus the 40gig drive produced strange intermittent clunking
noises. The new 120gig hdd solved that problem. But interestingly.. that
same 40gig hdd is now parked into a "spare" 500mHz 256meg ram pc, loaded
with Ubuntu, and there are NO problems.
We've probably all been hanging on to ME because we're adamant to not dish
out more $'s to MS. If your needs for faster processor, more ram, and new
programs do not exist, then ME should serve you well.
I really really really wanted to believe that ME would serve me well for the
rest of my days with modest upgrades as required. Afterall, I upgraded the
original box with USB 2.0 and even replaced the original NIC. ME continued
to perform well. But all I really wanted was to be able to load atleast 3
apps in memory (Wordperfect, my browser, and WindowsExplorer as I navigated
through files over my network). Suddenly, Explorer.exe would close and fail
to reload the Taskbar apps! The only solution was to reboot. Very time
consuming and frustrating. Then when I learned that ME is theoretically
limited to 512meg ram and that the only way to use more ram is to trick ME
to think there is LESS, that disappointed me. Under those conditions it's
better to get a new OS that can handle that. And.. I really don't want to
spend more $'s on a new box when I've already invested in a fine 120gig hdd,
USB 2.0 expansion, 768meg total ram, and a better (DVI-capable) video card.
My appreciation and many thanks go out to all the fine folks who helped me
with my ME questions over the years. I enjoyed helping the few people with
my insights too when I could.

ASCII Spanish characters
This is a two-fold issue:
1) I noticed today that all *incoming* emails in Spanish have the accented
vowels and other special characters such as: ¿ ¡ ñ...etc, altered with
little squares and other characters.
2) My *outgoing* emails are fine on my side, yet some other recipients get
little squares, etc. on their systems - as opposed to the accented vowels,
etc.
I've been using *Windows Me* for 2 years and this is the first time I 've
encountered this problem.
Start - Settings -Control Panel - Keyboard - Language: contains the
following:
1) English (United States) with Properties/Layout: United States 101.
2) Spanish(Modern Sort) with Properties/Layout Spanish Modern.
Left ALT+Shift to switch languages and indicator enabled on taskbar.
------------
No major changes in programs or the OS - Still have IE6 SP1, 256 RAM and I'm
on dial-up.
Would appreciate your input.
Thanks,
