This is a VERY unusual error!!
When was the last time you updated your anti-virus program and ran a full
system scan of all files? - if it's not within the last week, do it NOW! (
and let us know if it fails at any point)
Please can you answer the following questions - it may point to a possible
cure.....
1) Do you use Norton Software?
2) Do you use LiveUpdate - and if so, in automatic mode, or manual mode?
3) Is there a WININIT.INI file in your C:\Windows folder?
4) How much free space is there on your C: partition?
5) What is the space allocation for System Restore (System
Properties|Performance|File System|Hard Disk)
6) What is the actual space taken up by your C:\_Restore folder tree (It's
Hidden, and a System folder, so you'll need to enable viewing of these in
Folder Options)
7) Is there a WININIT.ERR file in the /Windows folder? - do the contents
consist of lines like
"ERROR: DELETE_FILE C:\Somefilename C:\_RESTORE\TEMP\Somefilename 0x20"
(please copy/paste a few of the earliest, and latest lines in your response)
7) are you running GoBack??
With answers to the above, we may be able to find a solution other than a
reinstall of the system.....
