Sorry folks... unsure what is happening. Running MS win ME

freezes my system.

Any thougths on the problem and possible solutions... Iam
not that savvy ,but able to use notepad to modify some
files.

Hope to hear from helpers.

A frustrated Canadian... Scotty

When do you get that message??
if immediately after booting, then .....
You may have a virus/spyware hijack

download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC
http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe

- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.

Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the
CoolWebSearch hijacker.
http://www.merijn.org/cwschronicles.html

Use CWShredder, the removal tool:
http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip
http://www.merijn.org/files/CWShredder.exe
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/CWShredder.exe
http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip

download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to
remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.

See http://www.onlinehelp.bc.ca/tips.htm#resources and also
http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/resource.htm for information about System
Resources.

One of the best ways to improve the value of free System Resources is
to reduce the number of background "tools and toys" (a.k.a. crap and
corruption) that gets loaded when the computer starts up. Use Start -
Run - MSCONFIG and go to the Startup tab. Compare the list of items
that are loading at startup with the following checklist web sites to
see what can be safely dispensed with:

http://www2.whidbey.com/djdenham/Uncheck.htm
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php
http://www.3feetunder.com/krick/startup/list.html - has trojan related
items listed

Note: Please ensure that you fully understand the purpose of a
startup item, how and why it was put into the startup, and the
consequences (if any) of removing it before you make any changes.
Some items are very important for the proper and safe functioning of
your computer, including at least one item that is listed twice.

Disabling an item by unchecking it in MSCONFIG should only be done for
testing purposes or as a "last resort" when no other way of getting
rid of the unwanted item can be found.

p.s. also do the spyware and virus checks as per Noel Paton.

Good luck

Good luck.

Previously you said you were a "frustrated Canadian". What part of
Canada are you in? I am in Duncan B.C.

Good Evening Ron,

I am in Calgary, trying to get this laptop in shape so I can network my new
Dell with this onlder one... SWMBO needs to learn these things. Just before
the New Dell arrived, the STOP and lack of Resources began to show up. The
Help that the two of you have given me was EXCELLENT, at least so far. Why? I
have follwed the links and it seems the laptop is running better.... still a
bit long to load, but better.
Thank you so very much...

Scotty
