Hello,

I accidentally killed may of the files on my operating
system and now it won't boot. I can't find my startup disk
for Windows ME. Can I dowload one from somewhere?

I have one for my laptop but it is running Windows 98 SE
and will not support the "Restore" function from the CDs
that came with the computer.

Thanks in advance.

Bob

You can download an image file that can be used to create a Win Me boot
floppy from http://www.bootdisk.com/
Double click on the downloaded image and it will then create a boot floppy.

Thanks, I got it.

But the problem is still the same as when I tried using
the Win 98 SE Startup Disk. I can't run my restore CD
because it says i must be in 32 bit mode. So I can't
extract any files or even restore the entire drive.

Any Ideas?

Thanks again.

Bob

It sounds as if you have a 'branded' PC (e.g. Dell or HP) which has its
own Restore disk. If this is the case check your system documentation.
The CD may be bootable; try starting the PC with the restore CD in the
drive.

If you have a standard Windows CD try this:
Start the PC with the floppy you created then select option 2 (I think)
from the menu - it's the option 'Start computer with CD-ROM support'.
You should get an A:\> prompt after a while.
Type "dir c:" without the quotes and press Enter. You should get a list
of all the files on drive C: scrolling up the screen indicating that the
drive is readable.
If that's OK and you get to the A:\> prompt again then put in the
windows CD, type SETUP and press Enter.

If you still have problems check your BIOS settings - restoring to
optimum values or factory settings may help.
