    - Problem downloading MS updates For the laast 2 weeks I haven't been able to download any critical updates from the MS site. I'm not sure why. I select them, they start to download, then I get a MS screen that goes by to fast to even determine what it is much less what it says, then I get another MS screen that says nothing was downloaded and to try again. I try again and get the same results. Any help would be gratly appreciated.     - No Shut down button Hello all, I have a problem that makes no sense. I can no longer shutdown my ME box from the start bar. When I click start>shutdown....the pop up box only gives me the option of Log Off or Restart. My box is virus free, and I have removed all current traces of ad/spyware.     - Startup Graphic Shows Black Spots Startup Graphic show about 30 black spots in the picture, computer runs fine once in Windows.     - Hibernate Mode Freeze Hi, I just reinstaled Windows Me on my Dell Dimension 4300. Everything was fine until I downloaded IE 6.x. After the restart it went into Hibernate Mode (by itself). I could not get out of Hibernate Mode so I restarted the machine and a message pops up saying "that the Hibernate Mode failed to exit correctly do I wish to disable the Hibernate Mode?" I said yes the screen goes blank and after multipal restarts the machine goes strait into Hibernate Mode. Why is this happening? What can I do to fix this?     - Cabinet file question Hi everyone. How can I add/update files within a *.cab archive file please.? I have downloaded "The Ultimate Boot Disk" and also "F-Prot AV" which is called from a floppy disk by the UBD. However the virus definitions are out of date and F-Prot refuses to run. I have the latest F-Prot program and definitions on my hard drive and would like to copy them into the F- Prot.cab file on the floppy disk. WinZip and WinRar can both read the cab file, but neither seems to be able to write to it.     - nothing after new hardware detected I was trying to install my usb driver, when the windows is loading (before the login screen), and it says " new hardware detected ... " but, nothing comes out after that, so i have to disabled the usb driver in bios to login windows. can i simply skip the auto-detection in windows, so i can login windows and install the driver for it?     - Combat Flight Simulator Loads Very Slow! I'm not sure where else to post this, but I know MS folks cruise it regularly so any help appreciated. Combat Flight Simulator CFS1 loads VERY slowly - especially when it says "Please wait while mission loads". Now, I'm running a Celeron 600 on a CUSL2 MOBO w/ 512 Meg ram & 32 meg GeForce 2 video card. I'm running WinME with all the latest video drivers, direct x 9, windows updates etc. I've scanned & defragged, run MSConfig & shut down all but Explorer to no avail. I've disabled the intro movie & edited the .exe file with a hex editor to not require the CD to run it, so the cdrom won;t be a choke point.     - multiple errors upon bootup My sister-in-law has a Compaq Presario 4504. She has Windows ME Millinum Edition. When you turn the computer on, once it gets part way through startup, there are multiple error messages that keep appearing. As of yet, I have not been able to even access any files. The cursor just hangs in working mode. A few of the errors are as follows: >error loading powrprof.dll an attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. >systray has coused an error in Kernal32.dll systray will now close.     - Windows ME Startup My system will startup with the improper shutdown screen and if I let it scan, the C drive the computer eventually freezes after scanning about 80% of the files. If I cancel the scan, the Microsoft networking screen comes up. After the Microsoft networking screen, the blue desktop screen is displayed without anything on it. If i press any keys absolutely nothing happens. When I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL, the close program dialogue box appears with only the two programs, Devldr16 and Ati2evxx listed.     - Error 1722 I need some help, I downloaded Norton Antivirus 2005 and when I tried to install it I got an "Error 1722, Problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.     - Onboard Video and System Resorces I'm working on a gateway computer and was wondering if the onboard video (S3) is using the CPU for video processing or if it has it's own computing power and is only sharing Ram.     - diagnostic programs? I have had my HP with ME for a couple years. It has been acting up. It will suddenly go back to the HP INVENT screen for no apparent reason. Also the screen will freeze occasionally and I have to reboot. I am thinking maybe the drivers are starting to corrupt? I recently wiped an old Pentium 3 Hewlett-Packard with its recovery disk, and it has been working great ... until... just this morning, on bootup (after it asks for password but BEFORE the desktop appears), I received the Blue Screen O' Death.     - Hidden Files I have some about 40 hidden file in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files folder which are not visible in windows explorer even with option of show all hidden files.     - ME major problem. I'm COMATOSE. I am trying to fix a peoplepc IBM based computer for a friend. I seriously suspect this computer is virus laden. I was told it was slowing and hanging before it was brought to me. At first boot, I could not get past the loader 'dots'. I tried the F11 command to start the computer to the partitioned clean drive. I then selected the fdisk choice to fdisk and reinstall all files. Probably my first mistake. The fdisk utility got to about 3 percent and then warned me of stack issues. I was told to restart as the fdisk action was halted. I restarted. Now I can't even get the computer past the IBM logo. This computer has no boot disk, so getting to an A:/ prompt is not possible.     - Using System Moniter Utility the Kernel:Processor Usage is 100% I have problems powering on my P4 Win Me. It comes up with Error has occured. Press Enter tp return to Windows or CTRL ALT to restart. Either will cause a black screen with the egg timer on solid and can not move it using mouse. Only thing i can do is to hold the power switch to switch it off. If i do get it started, once in every 20 attempts, the System Moniter Utility shows Kernel: Process Usage at 100% constantly. All my programs when i run especially internet over broadband are very slow and soon stop completely. this has only just started occuring last weekend after i was using ebay and a couple of popups came up which i tried to close and the whole thing shut up shop and hung.     - Corrupted Windows Loader Hi - My laptop siezed while I was working on it yesterday and when I re-booted it started up scan disk automatically. There were a number of errors, which I let it fix and I then proceeded to finish my work and shut-down. The next time I turned it on ME did not load - instead it stated that the Windows Loader was either missing or corrupted. The path stated was C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM.VXD To continue it asks me to type in the name of the Windows Loader - arrrggh, please help as I have no idea how to continue, as anything I type in DOS langage doesn't work. programs. How do I set it to display only the recently accessed programs?

Start | Settings | Taskbar and Start Menu. Ensure that "Use personalised
menu" is checked on the General tab. Remember that it will take a few
days for this to "kick in" whilst the operating system is "learning" about
your usage.
