I don't run Win 9x so I can't verify for you how many unprotected
items there are prior to re-immunizing after applying the new update.
Sorry about that.

Thanks Silj, I already posted my inquiry there, hoping to get an answer
soon. My immunization is up-to-date, for all I know.

I don't know who to respond to, but you're probably the most relevent,
Harry. The Win ME General alumni in this thread are using XP and you're
using ME (although 98SE has the same no. of detections). I haven't installed
the latest in 9x yet, but your figure is about right, so is in all
probability *actually* right!

Frankly I'm amazed to see so many folks using XP but advising on a ME group,
and not knowing that there is a very large difference between the no. of
Spybot detections in the two systems. Come on, alumniites!

I feel like I must be in a minority of one booting both, here.

Re: Spybot S&D update by Shane

Shane

I see a whole raft of posts in this thread that I initially missed, it would
seem, Harry. I see you'd already found out of the large disparity between 9x
and XP.

I remain astonished by the lack of awareness my friends showed here, though
it's really only at how little they must use Win ME these days. It doesn't,
of course, mean that they should not be advising here anymore, they still
know more than most and without these guys this group would be just about
dead.

However, Mike was not one of those posting about Spybot S&D immunization
anyway. Besides which the no. is a non-issue. As I've said before, most of
you guys are getting a little obsessive about these security products, as
though if you don't update right away, you *will* get infected!

I almost never use Ad-aware or Spybot S&D, there is no need, they are
*tools* to have just on the off-chance, not to run every week, or every
other day. If you steer clear of crap, the only time you're likely to see
these tools actually find something (other than Alexa Related or MRUs, which
are par for the course) is when you run them on someone else's machine! They
do not take the place of common-sense - and using common-sense you don't
need them anyway.

:-)

Same goes for the paranoia infection!

Isn't Mike commenting on your use of the word 'legal', Harry? I'm sure you
don't mean it literally, but it is difficult to read your comment as other
than in some way disdainful of those posting here yet no longer using ME, as
though you might somehow, sooner-or-later end up infected by spyware in
consequence. Still, it seems unlikely you meant that either - you have a
curious turn of phrase, as indeed do I, so I understand perhaps a little
more readily than most!

But Mike was, I believe, demonstrating a very dry wit, as I hope I do too
given the opportunity, so I can hardly condemn *him* for it. I hope that
others appreciate that actually it's very pleasant laughing at oneself, an
affirmation of one's maturity, self-assurance and ready wit! Harry, you use
words like 'legal' in such a context and you 'ask for it'!

Never was a true word spoke in this NG. I also simply cannot understand
why everyone seems to be obsessing about these various updates.

I have a PC here that runs nothing other than Win Me and with IE5.5 SP2 at
that (for support reasons). I also have virtual machines available
running Win Me "out of the box" with no patches or updates (IE5.5 .100)
and another fully patched VM with IE6 SP1 and WMP9.

I remember reading something about people in offices obsessing about having
the latest data. It was a long time ago, possibly even before I started
using computers. Anyhow it seems to me the same thing really.

I totally agree with you and run AdAware now and again. It only ever
catches one called "live365" which I often just delete in Windows
Explorer. Other than that, nada. But I just keep it updated using
'herd instinct' I guess, lol.

And what are you and Shane doing up at this hour?? Get to bed, young

My humble apologies to Harry and the rest of the group. I knew there was a

I am now, Debbie having decided she was long overdue her breakfast and
felt she had to dance and jump around on me until I got up and fed her.

Best of luck with the "no fags" Joan. Just think though of all that spare
cash you'll now have. :-)

Just waiting for another phone call from John to say he's got there, but
knowing him he will have got lost along the way <g>

Using gum, Joan? If not, consider it. If you use gum, chew it as per
instructions, or you'll get insufficient doses and/or headaches etc. Use gum
properly and I'm sure it's the best way.

Anyway, I won't go on, as being reminded doesn't help! Good luck.

No can't use gum, on lozenges at the moment until I go to the surgery then
I should get patches on prescription.
Don't like these lozenges seem to burn my mouth and can make me feel a bit
sick sometimes, mind you I've only had three so far, but no fags <g>

Well I guess guinea pigs take up less room than a couple of race horses.

Good for you, Joanie!!!! I am on Day 19 of the Nicoderm patch and so
far, so good. My neighbour is about 10 days behind me and he is doing
well too.

We don't need a prescription for the patches but they do cost about $30
Cdn for a week's worth. However, I spotted a study being done here in
Toronto and I qualified. Got 5 weeks free of the patches and just have
3 more of the strongest ones. Then 2 weeks of Step 2. May buy Step 3
if I have to.

Btw....if you do use the patch and find you are having really vivid,
almost nightmarish dreams, take it off when you go to bed and put a new
one on in the morning. That is what I am doing. Heck, I never did
smoke when I was sleeping anyway....LOL.

I smoked for 40+ years, so this is a definite challenge!! I am glad to
see Shane is still off them.

Cheers...Heather

Glad to know that Casey isn't the only cat that wants to *play* at 3
am!! He drives Ron nuts, lol. I could sleep thru a bombing, so never
hear him.
