    - enable web content in folders also taskbar problems. When opening any folder and hitting the tools button, then folder options, i seem to have lost half of the radio buttons that i had previously. Half of them are now greyed out and cannot be used. I have also lost my quick launch on the taskbar, and am unable to right click on taskbar to bring up menu. Any assistance would be truly grateful. Thank you.     - FYI Heirloom Howdy, Found a cure for our puter not starting completely.. For about 2 years our puter would fail to start 8 out of 10 times and have to do a scan disk to get it working.. Well over the weekend we removed/deleted all references to HP printer tool box and drivers.. Well kiss the frog, the puter now starts every time, fast and completely... Hasn't failed to start once...     - Crash in Console while using queuing a work item Hi All, I have a usb driver running in Windows ME but when i type something in console prompt then either system crashes or console crashes. Exact steps are given below. 1) Plug in a usb modem. 2) Go to start->Run->Type command->Enter 3) Command prompt opens. Type something in command prompt. 4) Either system crashes or console crashes. I have come to know that crash occurs near the function where i queues a work item in a system worker thread. I am using the standard functions "IoAllocateWorkItem()","IoQueueWorkItem()" and "IoFreeWorkItem()" functions to queue the work item. The function which queues the work item is running at DISPATCH LEVEL and obviously the callback function is running at PASSIVE LEVEL. How can i queue the work item without the console crash?     - Boot Up Problem with Win ME (AV Related?) I have a friend who has an older computer, running Win ME. He has left town to go to Chicago, but in the mean time a 21-year-old intern has come to live at his place and needs to use his computer. His computer had an old version of Norton AV on it, which was not updated since 2004. So I advised the intern, Ellen, to remove Norton and install AVG instead. She does this. Unfortunately, she is not a computer-savvy person, and previously had only used Macs and XP machines. So, sometime after installing AVG and perhaps after installing Firefox, she starts getting these error messages, which she basically ignores. One of these messages said something about installing a disk in drive A:, i.e., the emergency boot disk. She did not have one and did not know what they meant, so just ignored the message. By the time I got there with my own boot disk, the machine just would not boot up. You'd get this start up screen with the various choices, and it would be defaulting to Safe Mode. But you'd try to boot into Safe Mode, and it would just run through the initial splash screen cycle, and put you back to the same menu, trying to boot into Safe Mode. We tried the boot disk, did scandisk and scanreg, but neither worked. The "Help" file on the boot disk says something about an antivirus program causing failure to boot, but does not say how to fix this. Oh, we did run the utility that checks out file fragments or memory fragments or whatever and converts them into a FILE0001.CHK type file. That file had several references to AVG7, so it seems likely that the antivirus had something to do with the problem. Can anyone clue me in to the cause of the problem? And how to go about fixing it?     - Blank screen after upgrading to ie6 Hi Have just recently upgraded to ie6 from ie5.5. Whenever i go for a restart i get a blank ( black ) screen with a flashing cursor in the top left of screen. The following popped up in a dialog box after finishing the latest update from yesterday, with a red 'x' in the upper left corner: "An outsider did inject malicious code into this application! If I move the My Pictures folder to the desktop it will then reside: inside the Desktop folder, which is inside the Windows folder, which is inside the C: folder; instead of where it is now: inside the My Documents folder which is inside the C: folder. Will making my proposed move have the effect of setting it "equal" to any other system folder?? I must admit I haven't a clue what this means! At the bottom of SR's "filelist.xml" in the category named <include> I find two of my image file extensions--PSP, TUB;--as well as EOT, TTF, and LNK. Can I use Notepad to edit that file and remove these "includes"? Even if so, I intend to schedule SmartSync Pro to backup certain folders at my nightly shutdown--and My Pictures will definitely be one of them!     - System Restore Can anyone enlighten me with respect to how System Restore works. In a Clean Boot environment, I uninstalled Spybot 1.4 and deleted remnants (there were quite a few files and folders remaining). Then downloaded and installed Spybot 1.5 and upon rebooting, I immediately ran into resource problems. I think the problem is related to either me deleting the remnant files after uninstalling V1.4 or the fact that the new version is running in the background. In any event, not finding a way to disable that feature, I elected to run a restore point to yesterday. Upon reboot, I was surprised to see Spybot version 1.5. I had understood that SR does not affect data files but thought that it definitely affected programs. Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.     - OT: Vista update To those interested, The new notebook with Vista Home Premium is working just fine for my wife. It took quite a while to remove all of the "trial crap" that came installed, but, that is almost complete.....I only need to remove a few file and folder leftovers and do some manual housekeeping in the registry. Overall, she is impressed with the OS and the system. Personally, I like XP better (mainly because I am used to it).....Vista seems to be a bit "AOL'ish" with all the 'eye candy' and has a number of 'nag' messages from the PC Health feature. i.e., it did not recognize the backup I made from Acronis to an external USB HD.     - Downgrading from Win XP to Win ME? Hello: The system requirements listed on the Windows ME box are noticeably less than the system requirements listed on the Windows XP SP2 Home Edition box. Also, many software packages that still support both Windows ME and Windows XP list noticeably less systems requirements to run on Windows ME as opposed to running on Windows XP. If I were to downgrade my operating system from Windows XP SP2 Home to Windows ME, would I notice improved performance (speed) in running my PC, as the systems requirements are less? My system main specs are: AMD Athlon XP 2200 CPU 1 GB DDR RAM (the max for this MB) 100 GB HD, 7200 RPM, 2 MB cache. Does anyone have any ideas about this, or is this just a very dumb idea?     - Unofficial Win ME SP1? Hello: I recently came upon a site that claims to have an "Unofficial" SP1 for Windows ME at http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#WME.     - Microsoft Works When trying to access Microsoft Works, version 5.0 on Windows ME, I get a message that reads: "A file is missing so Microsoft Works cannot run.     - Millenium Start Up problem When I try to start up my computer, I get the Dell Logo but after that all I get is the message 'Invalid system disk replace the disk and then press any key. I'm not able to start the computer in the 'Safe' mode or restore it. I've put in the ME Operating CD but that hasn't done any good. There's no CDs in either drive and the floppy drive is empty as well. Does anybody know how to start the computer up?     - My Pictures Well, I did it again! I had so many pictures that I opened different folders to identify the places, people, etc. This worked well. However, by mistake *I deleted the My Pictures folder*, which only had a dozen pics. Question is: How do I get the My Pictures folder back where it was? that is: Start|My Documents|My Pictures. I have tried System Restore and have also run the Restoration program. Neither of them worked, since the folder was deleted. Is there a command thru Start|Run to get back the My Pictures Folder (with the camera icon on the envelope)? Or any other way to place that folder back where is supposed to be? Does it really make a difference not to have the aforementioned protocol and use separate folders for my own pictures within My Documents instead? Or as a toolbar in the system tray?     - Second hand computer reinstall ME I was given a second hand computer by a local college. Before gifting, they cleared the hard drive and installed Win98 on the laptop.     - Backing it all up Having three C drive failures in just two and a half years requiring me to reinstall and re-set up every program I use (which I'm doing now) makes me wonder if it's possible to copy/backup my entire new C drive to a comparable slave for switching out when this new primary master also goes belly-up down the road. I've replaced enough internal hard drives now to know how to switch them and their jumper pins so the mechanics aren't a problem. But will this duplicating idea work to give me a fresh bootable functioning Windows et al with a minimum of trouble?     - Moving My Pictures Hi Folks I'm always SO glad to find you guys here :-))) I'm still using and loving Me and have had no problems with the OS for ages but have just reinstalled it after yet another C drive failure--my third in two and a half years :-( Maxtors and Samsungs) I've been reinstalling my essential programs and helpers for a week now but before I reup and setup my favorite image handler (PhotoImpact) I thought I'd ask if anyone has ever tried moving My Pictures out of My Documents (where it's buried!) and what the results might have been. I notice that TweakUI offers the option to move it but I'm reluctant to try that without knowing if the default folder-view of thumbnails will stick. I definitely do NOT want to be clicking to "View thumbnails" every time I browse to My Pictures from dialog boxes--especially because I keep all images and personal folders to use with my graphics programs inside of it! I think a dandy place to put it would be on the desktop in the same manner My Documents is found there. Is that possible?
