Recently, without any notice or warning,
my IE 5.5 (running on WinME) has become as slow as a sloth.

If I type something in a form or address bar,
it takes forever for a single letter to come out.

I downloaded IE 5.5 service pack 2 from MicroSquish,
and successfully installed it, but it didn't help at all.

NO OTHER PROGRAM HAS THIS PROBLEM!!!

While I'm on the net,
I can use ANY other program (Eudora, Free Agent, Word, etc, etc, etc),
with NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER!!!!

I've cleaned up my temp files, cookies, etc,
run scandisk and defrag,
run thorough anti-virus scans,
and rebooted just before hooking up to the net
(i.e., IE is the 2nd thing that comes up
after the connection is made).

I tried download IE 6.0,
but I kept getting interrupted (this was at 3 in the morning!),
and when it finally completed after numerous attempts,
it failed to setup properly!

I like IE 5.5 (until now!),
and am wondering if anyone has had the same problem
and knows of a solution.

Thanks for your time!

It's definitely an IE problem. I'm guessing here, but possibly repairing
IE would fix it? Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs
and scroll down the list to "Microsoft Internet Explorer 5(.5) and
Internet Tools". Click Add/Remove. Choose the option to repair. Get
back to us with your results.
