Which server? As of one minute ago both
(http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip or
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip) allow me to download
the latest version of CWShredder.

Also please note that CWShredder is no longer being updated.

Mike,
I had just downloaded a fresh copy from merlyn site last night.
You say that it no longer updates, so you mean that we just go
download a new one frequently?

No, what I said was "CWShredder is no longer being updated". This means that
it is not being updated due to Merijn starting a new course at university and
no longer having the time to update this tool.

For more details see section beginning "June 28 2004" at
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html and also this article from The
Register dated 29 June http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/06/29/cws_shredder/

Burt,

I agree. A most unfortunate turn of events. Like many others I feel
"something needs to be done" about the scum that are causing all of these
problems with their parasites. The problem isn't so much in this case that
the software has "holes" in it but rather the unscrupulous commercial
exploitation of functions built in to say Internet Explorer. These functions
are there so as to allow the legitimate customisation by third party vendors
such as the ability to add plug-ins used by the likes of Adobe (for example
Acrobat) and SpyBot S&D.

Mike,
Yes, it is very unfortunate that these scum writers are
still running rampant.. I am not one who wants more gov't
interventions, but on the WWW I think it is going to come
that we HAVE to have a daddy cop onboard. It would be
almost impossible to determine the amount of man hours
that goes into fighting this stuff and the downtime of so
many computers worldwide. I think they should have some
very stiff sentences for the perpetrators of this. The sick
part to me is that they don't get any recognition for their
works as for their names... It isn't like they got a badge for
writing the worst of spams and viruses and their name in lights
so to speak... They just sit in the shadows. What a waste of
time... Seems like they could use the same knowledge to do
something decent for mankind instead... Oh wow, I better get
off the soap box for now..

On another note, I suppose I should have made a NEW post
in the XP group, but I will drop it on you here anyway...
My buddy up the road a few miles started a couple weeks ago
having VERY slow downloads from the net.. I went up to his
place last night and took a look thru the registry (run-runonce etc)
and also looked in msconfig and couldn't find anything that looked
out of place.. I notice ALL web pages are VERY slow to load, but
almost impossible to get a VS update for dat files and also, it took
45 minutes to get an Ad Aware 6 ref file d/led and installed..
As for the computer speed, it is quite fast on everything else..
I guess I better say it is a two year old Dell 8200 with plenty of
ram etc. running XP Home. Haven't been able to get Windows Updates
for the past two weeks... They just won't d/l.. They start to but you
can leave it for hours and they never finish... I am going to go up
again this eve with HiJack This and run it and send Tom the info
and see if he finds anything.. I have run CWShredder, Ad Aware 6
and Spybot S&D.. All of them updated and found nothing of any
real consequence... I am almost sure it must be a worm or something.
Do you have anymore ideas? It is running on dial up and I have one
puter here at my place on the same server and am not having any probs.
I also have DSL which I couldn't live without anymore.... They got me
hooked for sure with the 512/294 package..
Anyway, thanx again for your help on all of the above and the help
you have given me in the past years..

Piccolo,

You should still be able to download the last released version from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip). This is version
1.59.1.

Please Note that the version available from
(http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip is older being version
1.56.2.
