When I do a search in 'File and Folders' on Wininit.ini
I come up with nothing

My cousin's computer starts up, shows the desktop, and
then
gives this blue screen:
"An error has occured. To continue press ENTER to return
to Windows, or press ctrl+alt+del to restart your pc.

If i press enter it freezes or pops up the same screen.
If I restart it does the same thing. I don't know what to

the sounds I hear when I get notified a new e-mail has arrived
Help! How do I control the sounds my laptop makes? Is this
a Yahoo Messenger issue, a Dell issue, IE,Desktop theme,
Windows ME, or what? All I know is I get startled when
I've got Yahoo Messenger open, and then I get notified
when an e-mail has arrived. The noise it makes when
someone has replied to a chat that I've minimized is OK,
but I'd still like to know what my options are regarding

unable to delete file on removeable disk
when trying to delete a jpg file on my digital camera, the
file is placed in a tmp folder instead. when deleting the
file in the temp folder, the file is simply renamed. when

Millennium Boot
I have a Gateway Solo 1200 that is running Windows
Millennium and on boot up I get the Splash Screen and
then the windows background and for a split second the
Windows bar. Then all I have is the Background and my
mouse. Nothing else works. It there anything I can try

Critical updates
Are Windows and IE updates always cumulative? I'm checking for a friend
and the MS page of critical updates shows 43 items for ME. (accessed via
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp ). The list
isn't exactly informative!
He's pretty sure he's had automatic updates from time to time, and the
Windows Update check from the Start Menu says he's OK. But he
reinstalled Windows from his CD a couple of months ago and we are
wondering if the Update checks the product or just the registry or
wherever past actions are recorded.

My PC will switch off
The only way I can power down my PC is by holding in the
power button for 10 seconds. If I use the shut down menu
it just keeps restarting. I am sure this isn't good for

IExplorer causing a fault in MSHTML.DLL
When I get an email with link to a web site I quite often
get this error message and the only way to get rid of it
is to reboot.

keyboard freezes
My keyboard freezes after several seconds of inactivity It
will work but only after hitting any key twice. The only
time it does not happen is if in safe mode.

startup problems
I am a complete novice and I have suddenly had two error
mesages at Start Up
1)" Ledll has caused an error in IEDLL.EXE, possibly
corrupt, reinstall."
2) "LOADER.EXE has caused an error"
I do not know if these two items affect the running of
the PC, or if they are file fragments. They may be
harmless.....I don't have the know-how to reinstall these
items, so there is only one way, and that is to reinstall
ME.
I had tried to install XP but got into a bit of a mess so
managed to get ME back, but there doesn't seem to be a
restore point.

Email Settings
I hope someone can help me concerning Outlook Express.
Whenever I click on "Create Mail", the top of the email
says "New Message - Korean". I keep changing the encoding
back to "Western" and I can send the email. But as soon
as I try to send a new email, it goes back to Korean. Can

Alright. I own a gateway, probably my real problem... but
anyway...
The computer starts up, then suddenly a black screen
appears. A dark blue rectangle appears in the center
about an inch in height and the width is somewhere around
3 1/2 inches. It asks "Enter Password" with a black text
box and a flashing white square. I have no idea what my
password is as I had never installed one onto the

Windows Me Updates freeze system during start up -
In the middle of downloading Me Updates from Microsoft
website, my power supply crashed & powered off my PC. Now,
when trying to start up my PC, it freezes 1/2 way
into "Installing Windows Updates". Approximately where my
PC crashed while downloading. Cannot get past this stage.
Cannot "end task". Safe Mode is possible, but cannot
restore to previous date or undo installation of updates.
Also cannot access Internet to complete downloading
updates in Safe Mode.
Please offer alternate suggestions (very simple
instructions please) of how to correct this problem. I

I tried to resolve a problem where I was getting more than
150 email failures per day(I think it was a virus). I
downloaded an internet explorer service pack. Now when I
tried to boot the computer, I got the error message "

Can't delete a folder from the recycle bin
The subject pretty well sums it up. The folder is a sub-folder I deleted
from the favorites folder, and inside of it was a defunct shortcut. Every
time I try to delete it it tells me the shortcut is not valid or something
to that effect. I have searched everywhere, even through the registry, for
the shortcut name and can't find it.
What do I need to do to be able to empty the recycle bin? Thanks in advance

unable to download from cds
approx 4 days ago my computer would only boot up to my

when restaring ME edition microsoft a screen popped up and

My enter key inserts a "+" sign in text and URL location typing
Suddenly whenever I kit my enter key -- for instance to
creat a new paragraph -- a "+" symbol is inserted. This
is not only annoying when composing messages to send via e-
mail, it also winds up throwing off searches I am trying
to conduct using the URL location window. Everytime I try
to type in a web address and then hit enter to go to that
address, I get a response that this web address (with the

I recentle re started my computer using microsoft ME
edition. It gave an unusual screen ( to me anyway ) giving
3 options to re start of which one was safe mode ( it
recommended safe mode ) I clicked on safe mode and now
everything is enlarged and fuzzy and does not function

Cannot drag and drop in Windows Explorer
I have Windows ME. After upgrading my browser to Internet
Explorer 6.0, when I open Windows Explorer, it says My
Computer and my drives are on the right. I used to be able
to see all my drives on both sides of the split screen. I
was able to drag and drop files among drives using Windows
Explorer. Now all I see are my drives on one side. I
cannot drag and drop anymore. How can I get back to the
