    - Two On-screen Keyboard Problems 1- When I start On-screen Keyboard it turns off Num Lock. If I turn it back on, while On-screen Keyboard still running, it turns off again with mouse movement. If I hover on Break or Page-Up keys, Num Lock light flashes. 2- Also if On-screen Keyboard is minimized it stops other programs to minimize - if clicked in taskbar on that program's button.     - Sound Stutters My PC has developed a real problem with stuttering sound, even the windows start up music is distorted. The stuttering is there on both speakers and headphones. I can't pin it down to any specific action on my part. Device Manager shows no problems or conflicts. I have tried 3 different sound cards, including Audigy2NX which is an external USB device, but they all have exactly the same symptoms. I have replaced the drivers on my video card, Radeon 9800XT AGP, and have also tried running it as just a standard VGA device, but to no avail. I have also tried upgrading the chipset drivers (Intel 875P). The problem is still there with no background processes running except explorer, state mgr and systray. My system is MSI 875P Neo ICH5 mobo with pentium 4 2.8hz and 512MB DDR RAM. Increasing RAM to 1GB made no difference. Temperatures all seem ok. Antivirus, Spyware and Adware scans are all clear.     - PDF vs. Resources At times Adobe Acrobat Reader6 seems to eat up a tremendous amount of either memory and/or system resources, specifically when downloading larger pdf files, up to the point where there is not enough memory left and it is being suggested to exit some programs, in order to free up space. Is there anything that can be done to avoid or prevent this from happening and, if so, what would it be?     - Auto start programs I have WinPoet on my laptop for dial-up. When I start my laptop it runs automatically and then is in my system tray but it is not in my start up folder. I now use a USB wireless connection to access the internet, but I don't want to remove the WinPoET so I can use dial up if my DSL goes down.     - Help!!display settings won't change I don't know why when i restarted my pc after it froze getting on line, that it restarted in a safe mode type setting. The settings will not allow me to change my screen to 800x600 pixels or higher. The color are on 256 colors, and will not let me to make high or true color.     - Windows / Temp Files Not sure what is going on but I am trying to clear my windows.temp directory. The are more than 36,000 files in there all with basically the same name (slightly differet). The names start with HP and then have slight variations in the remainder of the name. My WINME computer locks up when I try and select all of the files to delete. I tried to clear through the Disk Cleanup utility but apparently that doesnt cleat the Windows.Temp directory. I have been having some strange problems with the computer and clearing this temp directory in the past has helped. Can this have anything to do with my HP932 printer?     - Content Advisor I'm having a problem with a password that was entered into the Content Advisor Section a few years ago when my eldest son had access the the pc. The pc was cleaned up and recently turned over to my other son. A request for the "Supervisory Password" suddenly started appearing on the pc and it won't allow me to disable it. I get the following message: ASPI2dos.sys was not found, "Windows needs the disk labled 'window Millineum Edition to continue'.     - Screen freeze while copyng large group of files This is a Dell 700 MHZ with a Celeron chipset, 128 MB RAM and ME. Offline, when I copy a large group (10 files each 2-4 MB) of data files from a CD to a folder on the hard drive, the computer starts copying, then freezes, have to shut off and cold boot. This has happened several times, no problem on smaller groups of files, just large ones. This does not happen on my slower W98SE computer with less RAM. Is this likely caused by the Windows ME OS?     - Deleted files don't show up in Recycle Bin I have found the Recycle Bin in W98SE and ME is very easily corrupted, so what caused the change in behavior this time, I don't recall. When I delete files, at shutdown each day, my cleaner utility shows the combined size of the files it cleans out of the Recycle bin, so I know the files are really there. But nothing shows. Past advice in W98 ng gave this advice to solve the problem: quote: ----- Here is how to Deltree the Recycle Bin. 1. Use ME boot disk, start in A prompt 2. Enter "deltree C:\recycled" 3. After mistakenly trying to connect into an external data projector, when the projector was turned off, I find that (after scandisk) although winME runs apparently normally, it will not run in Safe Mode!     - Just Wanted to Say Thanks for All the Good Information I have a custom made PC that was built in late 98 and a few months ago I started getting the error "unable uo update ESCD" on boot but windows would go ahead and load. A look on the internet said it was the bios chip on the motherboard gone bad so I went to a couple of local PC builders and was told to junk the PC. I found another Asus P299 motherboard on eBay for $10.00 so I got it and swapped out the bios chip and then updated the bios to the latest version. I had always been afraid to try this before. Disabled things I don't use in bios, serial ports, parallel port, etc.and then decided to reformat and reinstall Windows. Downloaded all the various drivers and put them on a CD, did all the Windows updates. Next I installed Office XP only installing the features I actually use and then did the same thing with the rest of my software. It's amazing how stable WinMe can be and how fast it boots (6sec) and shuts down (3sec) when it's installed properly and and doesn't have a bunch of useless stuff loading at startup. Over the years I've printed many messages from this newsgroup and they were invaluable in configuring and eliminating glitches. A few things I remembered how to do like switching from APM which ME installed to ACPI but many of them I had completely forgotten. It might have been silly to put all this time into an old PC but It was a good project to focus on while awaiting surgery for prostate cancer and I learned a lot about PCs. Even got the nerve to do a bios update to my XP Pro machine. Again, thanks for taking the time to help people with their problems. Al Tag: Sharing Data Tag: 278696

    - Only one system restore point Hi al: There is only one restore point in my System Restore (dated today). I checked before updating Spyware Blaster and few others. Also as a curiosity there is 131 KB in the .SWP file but cannot access them: "The WIN386.SWP file is in used by another application and cannot be accessed" . Usually there are two weeks with many restore points. Any help would be appreciated, nothing special was done today and the last several days, except that I used CCleaner as I do almost every day.     - Change Windows password I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a Windows Me computer that is joined to a WIndows 2000 domain. I can log on to the domain as a regular domain user, and access network shares. But right after I log on to the domain using domain credentials, I'm prompted for a Windows password. I don't know what the password is, so I just click Cancel, and my Desktop then comes up. I'd like to change the password, but I don't know the old Windows password to be able to change to a new one.
