    - System Restore Problems System restore does not make system checkpoints. Any points I create only last about 4 hours and then disappear. I have the proper patch. I have 10 gigs free on a 30 gig hard drive. I have the system restore set to max on the file system. I have disabled and then re-enabled system restore. Any other ideas from anyone?     - sound like a virus? hi all, thanks in advance for the help. i am dealing with a compaq prisario 5000 model 3wv270. a month or so ago it started having difficulty restoring windows after they were minimized. would minimize a window and it would go to the taskbar, left click would not restore the window, right click then left click on restore would not restore the window. the only option was to ctrl/alt/del and close the window/program. this initially was intermittant and increased in frequency over the month. also, during the month the machine began struggling to boot. slow boots occasionally increasing to incomplete boots now. it will boot to the start of loading the desktop then go black, after a few seconds a small square of desktop will appear in the upper left corner. at this point ctrl/alt/del does not respond and the only way to shut the maching down is to hold the power button or unplug the machine. virus, bad ram, HD issues, or vid card issues? any ideas? again, thanks.     - Upgrade to 2000 Hi I am running ME on a Dell laptop and have tried to upgrade to Win2000 but after about 10 mins of running the setup program a message is returned saying that only supprted versions of Windows can be upgraded and tells me leave Setup! Is it because it is a Dell machine with a customised version of WinME - (if so, shouldn't Dell inform you before you buy the laptop) or is there another problem?     - Recycle-Bin " Invisable Files " Hi! I have WINDOWS ME, and my recycle-bin is reporting "O files" However, threw another program I can detect that there ARE files there! I checked the Recycle-Bin's "proporties" section and everythig checks out fine ..... If I have the Recycle-bin open and I drag a file into it normaly the file would apear in the recycle-bin but it dosen't !! it turns invisable !! And if I click "edit" I can "undelet" the last item that was deleted, even though it shows that there was "O files" !! I don't understand what's wrong ......     - Windows Me Recycle Bin I have a file recorded in the recycle bin which, when I try to clear the bin, am told " Cannot delete "file name": Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and filename." How do I go about clearing that file name out of the recycle bin? Obviously there is a file name in the recycle bin index record that cannot be located, for one reason or another. But, I can't figure out how to clear it. Any ideas?     - Loss Of Memory Revisited After trying all the suggested methods I still have the same memory loss, approximately 4 MB's a day. Is there really no way to fix this? It's only happening on my main drive "C" (D,E,F and G are the others, with no trouble at all). Mike said, 4 MB's a day wasn't too bad. My question is, why should there be any loss of memory?     - "_archive" folder I'm trying to clean up my nearly full hard drive. I am running Windows ME. There is a folder called "_ARCHIVE" that is filled with over 400 zipped "CAB" files dating back to early 2002 and ranging from one to several days between each subsequent file. This is taking up over 4 GIGS on my 20 GIG drive. Yet when I try to delete even the oldest files the system won't let me - says the source file may be in use. All the file names start with RG.     - ScanDefrag Hi all, Just a small thank you to those who wrote this program. Koldbear, Ken Routhier, Bill Blanton, Jon Scott and Blueorb Software. After getting the backdoor.hogle trojan and removing it, scandisk refused to run. I tried all of the solutions that I know, nothing I did worked! These included: Uncheck all running programs in msconfig. Scandisk in normal mode. Scandisk in safe mode. Endtask on all running programs. Uninstall some suspicious programs. I have been running scandisk from dos for about two weeks because of this issue. Early this morning I came across this small utility on another tech forum and gave it a try, it worked.     - Lost Quick Launch Toolbar Windows Me 4.90.3000 My computer froze so I rebooted. After reboot the Quick Launch toolbar was present but blank. I was unable to drag shortcuts to the blank area. So I then right clicked on the main toolbar and unticked Quick Launch toolbar. I then right clicked again and ticked Quick Launch toolbar.     - can't use internet I am using a daul-boot pc with windows me & xp pro with IE 6.0, Celeron, 256 MB ram, office xp, Norton 2003 with dial-up internet. I am having problem with my windows me, I can't use the internet. I am able to connect to the internet just fine but the connection is completely dead, IE just displays "page can't be displayed" and no matter what I try the data send & receives is just 400bytes. there is no problem with the isp as I have already tested this connection of my XP Pro machine.     - Thank you Mike, Noel! Thanks, guys! That was exactly it! I had over 10GB of System Restore files! I booted into DOS with a floppy and was able to delete about 3.5GB of them, but even in DOS it takes about 4/5 of a second per file to delete... so I'm going to be deleting for the next couple of nights, hehe. Is there an option to disable System Restore anywhere? If so, where is it? (Amazing side note: The System Restore space slider is still greyed out, but it moved to the right since I last looked at it. Three notches to the right. How obnoxious!)     - Weird Problem -- Repeating C's and N's This is a strange problem. Periodically, I get a sequence of repeating C's and N's (both uppercase and lowercase). When this is happening, I cannot select any menu item because the string of C's and N's is controlling the keyboard input. The only thing that seems to stop it is to either reboot the computer or to click on the Windows start key and keep pressing the letter S (between all the C's and N's) until the letter S finally gets recognized. I don't have a virus. I don't have any spies. I don't have any programs that shouldn't be there. I would think if it were a problem with the keyboard (keys getting stuck for example) that pressing the letter S would not stop the problem. Anybody ever heard of this??? Thanks.     - folder options While attempting to change the icon to my folders I accidently caused the MS-DOS Prompt window to come up every time I double click on a folder in My Documents. I was in Folder Options under Tools in File Types and under Advanced in the Folder and File Folder spot and I changed the icon. I made the mistake of thinking that if I set it as Default it would stick. Instead it started to open the Windows Explorer every time I doubleclicked. So I went back in and discovered that I had set the command Explore as Default not the icon. So I tried to give it a new command like Open and set that as default so now it opens MS-DOS Prompt. If anyone has any ideas on how do undo a default I can't delete the actions out the option is not available with folders and I have tried System Restore, unsuccessfully. I have Windows Me. He (the recipient) does not have Word or a Word Reader? He has an
earlier version of Word? He doesn't have the translator for different
Word versions?
